SOURCE: Sound not coming from left side surround sound speaker or my right side front speaker

it is highly likely that you're TV is outputting mono sound, hence the left channel only. check your physical connections to the TV and the balance / channel volume on the television as well.

SOURCE: Subwoofer ... it is hooked up, but no sound

I found a manual online, and learned that there is a speaker set-up procedure on this Onkyo model ... so when it got to the subwoofer set-up, I simply went from "subwoofer off" to "subwoofer on"

SOURCE: TX-SV525 Onkyo Receiver

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! If you have the room for them to run free and loud, keep the 901's in service. Get them a good amplifier because any multichannel receiver can't deal with their special EQ needs and still drive conventional speakers for the other channels properly.

The good news. I have a setup similar to what I think you're trying to do and it works great! Get a receiver that has has 5.1 analog Outputs so you could drive up to 6 external amplifiers if you want to (I drive 4). Then you can draw off the Front L&R to a separate amp for the 901's and the 'other' (lesser) speakers can live on the receiver's native amplifiers.

A separate multi-channel amp for the 901's was my solution. Because I can run each channel independently to an external amp, I run a Carver AV-406 (5-channel amp) for my 901's in Front, 2 Subwoofers (DBX DB-SW 15's) and the Rear Surround channel (Bose 301), with the Active EQ between the receiver Front L&R Outputs and the 901's amp channels. My receiver controls everything and just drives the Center (Kenwood 777's) and Surround speakers (Bose 301's) from its own amps.

You could get by with just a stereo amp for the 901's. A Carver M-200 is a good efficient amplifier that would have you cooking just fine (2x100W). Run it with the Active EQ between the receiver Front L&R Pre-Outputs ** and the 901's amp channels.

** Multi-CH Receiver L&R Audio Out ***) >>> Bose EQ Amplifer IN, then
Bose EQ Amplier OUT >>> new amplifier IN.

Attach the 901's to the new amp, set its volume to Max and run through your receiver's speaker level setup.

Any modern AV Receiver with the pre-requisite analog outputs should work. Since you have to buy a power amp for your 901 front channels anyway the receiver need not be a powerhouse. Look for features and lots of connections for digital and analog devices. I lean toward coaxial digital connectors because A) they take standard >> and cheap << audio cables; and B) they can be shared with Y-connectors if you're careful to have only one digital device turned on at a time. Optical SP/DIF is an expensive farce to get into your wallet.

For DVD/Cable Box/Blu-Ray look for multiple HDMI or component connections. Again, length and cable cost made me look at the component connections vs HDMI and I was pleased that I can't see the difference even with HD programming from my cable box. It's all great.

I contacted you today about the Magnavox HDTV 51MP6100D/37 that had a problem with the remote not working and the sound on TV not working I took the batteries out and put them back in and the remote is now...

My thoughts is to look through the menus. You may have the option to turn the TVs speakers off and use the Variable Audio outputs. Many use this feature to connect their audio to a surround sound system.
Just a thought.

Can Acoustic Research wirless speakers be used for surround?

yeah, I looked it up on thier website. Here is what they say.

Warning: This product is designed to work with line level outputs or headphone outputs only.

DO NOT connect it directly to speaker outputs as it will permanently damage the transmitter.

You can use these as surround speakers if you like. You just need a line level surround output on the receiver. Most high end receivers have this feature but, you may only have speaker level outputs.

If that is your case the only option you have is to use a "speaker to line level adapter".... http://www.crutchfield.com/p_543ADP12/Russound-ADP-1-2-Speaker-level-to-Line-level-Adapter.html?tp=9070

Now crutchfield.com is always a little high on prices but if you look around I have seen them around $10 online.

Good luck with your project.

Rear Surround speakers

Best thing to do is to put the unit in 5 channel or 7 channel mode. That will send left ch information to the front left and rear left speakers ( both will get the same information). Ditto with the right channel. The center channel will get centre channel information.

If all the speakers work, go out and rent TOP GUN. ( yes its old), BUT there are a few extreme scenes , one of which is the elevator scene, where the camera changes perspective and suddenly you hear the elevator doors close BEHIND you through only the surround speakers ( have the unit in surround mode....NOT 5 or 7 ch mode ). If this works ok, then you have no problems.

Remember, surround sound only produces information in the rear channels when the information is there. To check out the digital and DTS decoders, get an action flick. If you can, get a remote too, because that will unlock many features about the receiver that you cant get to with the front panel controls. Also go to yamaha and download the owners manual ( its free !!).....that should get you going.....

best of luck...

Vizio L42HDTV10A sound problems

In my case, turning the surround sound OFF is what fixed the problem. The bass contibutes most to the perception of the location of a sound. If surround is ON without surround speakers connected, the internal TV speakers can only take the place of what would be the front speakers in a surround system. So turn surround OFF and set your bass preference wherever you want it. That worked for me.
