I just got this laptop a few weeks ago. Everything has been fine until about 3 days ago... Internet pages load slowly, and I can't play any videos or music online because they take way too long to buffer or they are just choppy or just never start. I've been told it was the phishing filter on mcafee, I disbled that, it's still doing this. I ran scans for viruses, spyware, malware... all I had were a few of those bad cookies and I deleted them. I have the Vista home basic... I am so frustrated. My OLD desktop works okay when I turn it on and connect to the internet, but my brand new laptop is slow as a snail. I've secured the wireless connection and double checked to make sure it wasnt slow because someone else was using it. Not the case either. What am I supposed to do? It's so annoying. All I want to do is be able to watch a video or listen to a song when I feel like it!

live streamin video from sites such as cnbc will not work. They will completely knock my computer off of the internet to the point that I have to reset my router to restore my connection.

Its because of vista service pack 1 i upgraded and then all my live streams stopped working. i downgraded and everything worked again the best advice i can say is to get VLC and use that to play all your live streams and stuff. its a great media player in general http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

I am using a Denon internet radio on LAN (pirelli modem), works fine, but I cannot receive BBC. BBC on the PC works fine. Could that be a router problem? Any ports or adjustments I have to consider? If so,...

I have the same problems with my Pirelli modem in Austria (A1) trying to play BBC radio stations. I connected my Denon CEOL RCD-N7 to a different network (SilverServer in Austria) and it played the BBC radio stations swimmingly (not sure what modem was used btw)... I have another internet radio at home (Reciva based) and surprisingly, that one plays the BBC stations fine using the WMA streams.
I do have a workaround now for the Denon system: I have added the following URLs (AAC streams) to "My Added Stations" on RadioDenon.com and they work like a charm:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/r1_aaclca.pls
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/r2_aaclca.pls
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/r3_aaclca.pls
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/r4_aaclca.pls
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/r4x_aaclca.pls

Any suggestions as to what the issue might be with the Pirelli modem are welcome!

Here is how you hook a Canon Vixia to your computer for live streaming. Have a look here: http://www.thehdstandard.com/tutorials/how-to-connect-a-canon-vixia-hf-10-for-hd-video-streaming/

If your camera supports component or HDMI it will work.

Video streaming that constantly buffers

At&t offers 4 speeds to its customers, 768 kbps 1.5 mbps, 3.0 mbps & 6.0 mbps.  On the 1.5 connection depending on what type of video you're watching, you will experience some glitching.  If your general internet seems slow, then scan for malware/spyware.
I reccomend you use malwarebytes free version doesn't give realtime protection

Streaming audio/video quality can be affected by connection rate and Internet congestion. Many types of interruptions between your computer, your player, your computer's OS, your local network, your ISP and a streaming server can exist and cause trouble....
When you listen to the live audio/video stream, the sound or video skips, cuts out or buffers if the player doesn't have enough network bandwidth, it will buffer. Try increasing your player's buffering setting. Also:
  • Make sure you are choosing the appropriate bandwidth version of a media stream based on your Internet connection.
  • Make sure you are choosing the appropriate bandwidth settings in an Internet media player or streaming audio/video recorder.
  • Make sure NOT to download applications or files while watching/listening to media streams. Your Internet connection is shared between all open applications including your web-browser, your download manager and your streaming player. Closing applications that use your Internet connection simultaneously with your streaming player may reduce buffering.
  • Close other unnecessary applications that may be open on your computer. Reboot your computer. If you have lots of other programs open, they may be using too much processor time and/or RAM for the player to work properly.
  • Make sure your Internet connection is fast enough to reliably listen to streaming audio and/or watch streaming video online. High speed Internet connection is recommended.
  • Make sure your computer is fast enough. If your computer is old, it might be too slow to play an audio/video stream regardless of what else it's doing.
  • Update your media players and streaming audio/video recorders regularly.
Internet congestion can slow down the delivery of the stream, make it difficult for you to connect or cause buffering. Often the interruption is temporary. Please try to connect a few times at different times of the day, if possible. If you repeatedly have problems connecting, please notify your ISP - there are often quick fixes they can make when they learn about your issue.

Try the above steps you will find a solution to your problem....100% it will work.....

I can't record audio.

To record streaming music, you need a program that's specifically made for that. Here's one link to a company that sells such a product:
http://www.nch.com.au/soundtap/index.html

However, you might want to just search on Google for "record streaming audio". Shop around - there are some freeware products, and some that are shareware or very low priced. I just included the link so you could see what one program offers, but I haven't tried this particular program myself. I've used some freeware ones in the past, but they probably don't work with Disaster, er, I mean Vista.
