Question about Washing Machines

Open Question

Kenmore Oasis HE top load washer very slow water fill

The water fill into the soap compartment is very slow, except for the initial second when the machine first turns on. Already checked the inlet hoses and they are clear and in good working order. The water runs into the soap dispenser normally for a split second when first turned on, then trickles after. Once the dispenser is full, it disperses the solution onto the clothes fine. Is there a solenoid that controls the flow of water into the soap compartment?

It was a bad water inlet solenoid, specifically, the hot water inlet valve was bad. Replaced the whole water inlet valve and it's been working fine ever since.

Suggest you run the machine through a few rinse cycles until all the soap is washed away. Better if you can do this without laundry loaded.

SOURCE: water comes out of soap dispenser

http://www.applianceaid.com/neptune.html click this link and click the required option in the link Your washer can develop several types of leaks. You can track down a leak based on when it occurs:

During fill only
During drain and spin only
All the time
During fill only If the washer leaks only during the fill cycle, check these:

  • Air-gap device -The air gap is a small device found on most washers that prevents the wash water from being siphoned into the household water supply. It's located either mid-way along or at the end of the black rubber hose that comes from the water-inlet valve. Often it's made of translucent plastic. If one of the air-gap components deforms or cracks, you may need to replace it.

  • The tube -There's a rubber tube that runs between the water-inlet valve and either the air-gap or the inlet spout. If it cracks or breaks, it can cause a leak.

  • Inlet spout -Most washers have a plastic spout near the top of the main clothes tub that directs the water into the tub. If the spout cracks or breaks free of its mounting, it can cause a leak.

During drain and spin only A washer that leaks only during the spin cycle often has a leak in the main drain hose. Inspect the entire hose and correct any problem you find. Alternatively, the steel or plastic outer tubs can rust, split, or be punctured. This may be most visible during large loads and high water levels. If this happens, you may have to replace the entire outer tub--but that may not be an economical repair to make. Consult a qualified appliance repair technician for further details.

All the time If the washer leaks all the time, check these:

  • Hot and cold water fill hoses - Check the hot and cold water hoses from the household plumbing. If either hose is leaking, tighten it or replace it, as appropriate.

  • Main tub seal - The main tub seal is located between the transmission and the outer tub. It's the primary water seal in the outer tub for the transmission-shaft entry point. If this seal leaks, you can see the leak by opening up the machine's main access panel while the machine is full of water with a small amount of detergent in it. The leak appears at the underside of the outer tub, at or near the center. This seal is difficult to replace. You probably should call a qualified appliance repair technician.

  • Pump - If the pump leaks, you can probably spot the leak when the tub is full of water. The pump has two or more black rubber or plastic hoses attached to it and usually has a drive belt that spins the pump. If the pump is leaking, you need to replace it.

  • Outer tub - Over time, the steel or plastic outer tubs can rust, split, or be punctured. If this happens, you may have to replace the entire outer tub--but that may not be an economical repair to make. Consult a qualified appliance repair technician for further details.

SOURCE: Washing Machine Keeps Filling with Water through Detergent dispen

This machine has a water valve that works on vaccuum from the tub. You will see a small clear hose that runs from the side of the tub up to this valve. This valve is adjustable to change the water level in the tub to desired setting on some machines, but if it goes bad, it will not shut off, thus overflowing the tub. Find this valve and replace it if adjustment does not work.

Washer fills extremely slow. Hoses are fine water

Hi, check to see if there's good water volume coming through the hoses attached to the washing machine. If there is, check to see if the screens inside the water-inlet valve are clean. (The water-inlet valve is the device on the washing machine that the fill hoses are attached to.) If they're clean, you probably have a defective water-inlet valve. If so, you should completely replace the valve.

I am getting the error code "HC" since we replaced a hot water heater. What does it mean? How might I correct this? Whirlpool Cabrio

There is most likely debris from the plumbing repair / install of the hot water heater that has migrated into the inlet screens of the washing machine. Turn off the water supply. Remove the water hoses from the water inlet valve and then use a thin bnladed kinfe to coax the inlet screens out of the inlet water valve body. Wash then under slow running water by gently rubbing your fingers over them until they are clean. Hod the screens up to a light source to make sure you have them totally clean. Reinstall the CLEANED screens and connect the water. This should correct the HC code.
If not there is one more series of steps to do:
- Water supply OFF
- Remove both hoses at water valve inlet
- Remove the inlet screens
- Reconnect BOTH hoses to the inlet water valve.
- Remove ONE hose from the Wall water supply and place it in a bucket TURN ON THE REMAINING HOSE connected to the wall.
- Start a WARM fill cycle and tap the water valve hose connections with the HANDLE of a hammer or the head of a very large screw driver while the unit is filling. (15 seconds)
- Stop fill cycle and turn off water to connected hose
- Reconnect removed hose to the wall connection.
- Reverse hose positons and place 2nd hose in the bucket. Thern ON the hose still connected to the wall.
- Start a WARM FILL cycle.
- Gently tap the water valve hose connections 15 seconds
- STOP Fill
- reinstall inlet screens and connect all hoses.
- test fill cycle and return to normal service

My new dishwasher leaves a white residue on my pots. pans and stainless flatware. I have not changed soap. Could the water not be hot enough?

Check the incoming water quality. If water is hard and having calcium content this could happen. Use water softeners in the inlet water to the machine.

If dish washer salt compartment available fill with the special salt meant for dish washers.

Check rinse aid compartment and fill rinse aid. Or use two in one soap tablet.

If dissassembly of the dispenser parts and cleaning them did not solve the problem, check for slow water fill, generally caused by obstructed inlet screens where the hoses attach onto the machine. (usually only the cold)

What does LF mean?

It is a long fill error. It flashes when the machine control board detected no change in the water level or the water level is not reached in a certain period of time during the fill cycle. Water is probably not entering the tub due to the water inlet valve not functioning or water enters the tub but not properly due to clogged fill hose screens.

Press the Pause/Cancel button to clear the error on the display. Remove the fill hoses from the water inlet valve assembly at the back of the machine and check the screens. Clean the screens and replace it if necessary. Make sure that the water supply valve is open and water is present.

Put the machine in standby mode (only the Clothes Clean indicator is on) and activate the Manual Diagnostic Test Mode to check the operation of the water inlet valve.
  1. Select any one button except Power, Stop, and Stop.
  2. Press and hold the button for 3 seconds-->Release the button for 3 seconds--> Press and hold the button for 3 seconds-->Release the button for 3 seconds--> Press and hold the button for 3 seconds
  3. Press the same button when all indicators on the console are illuminated and "88" is displayed on the Estimated Time Remaining display. A single beep sounds and display shows the two digit console ID number for 3 seconds. The displayed ID number will change to "00" and the Add a Garment indicator will flash.
  4. Select Whitest Whites cycle.
  5. Press Start>Wash/Rinse Temp. The water inlet valve should turn on and fill the tub according to the Wash/Rinse Temp selection.
  6. Press Start to turn off the valve.
  7. Press Stop or Power button to exit diagnostic test mode.

Machine fills up only half way....water eners very slow....afta machine stops, I get a PF 6 reading

Try removing each inlet hose in turn and check for water flow from each hose. If seem slow, try reversing that hose to back-flow the inlet filter screen which should remove loose debris, but won't affect any hard water deposits (soak the screen end in white vinegar and hot water for an hour or so). If both hoses flow well, check the entry holes in the machine for plugged screens. If all else fails, replace the twin inlet solenoids. Hope this helps!

My HE3 is filling up with water when not being

You need to replace the water inlet valve. It isn't closing completely when the machine turns off.

However, if the hoses to the back of the washer have their own cutoff, turning them off when you are done will fix it too... you just have to be there when the machine stops.

Check the screen on the inlet hose from water fill. If not, it is the timer that you set (it's not functional)
