Light bulb replacement doesn't work

The light bulb behind the Adjusti-Temp drawer in our fridge burned out. I replaced it w/ a new appliance bulb but it did not go on. The instruction manual says to unplug the fridge before replacing the bulb, then to change the bulb, then to plug the fridge back in. I by-passed the whole plug out & in thing, since the plug is in the back of the fridge & I didn't want to unload the fridge in order to prevent "railroad tracks" from being permanently indented in my hardwood floors. Instead, I flipped the circuit breaker, but the new bulb still did not go on. Is there some other switch or fuse or wire that needs to be checked or flipped or replaced in order to get this light to work? I miss the extra light. Thanks for this great service. I look forward to your helpful replies. -Liz

Hi Liz,
The reason they want you to disconnect the power is to prevent shock while installing the new bulb. The door switch controls the light in the freshfood so you really do not need to disconnect power, just be careful not to stick your finger into the socket. In most cases the bulb is hard to get securely screwed into the socket. The moisture in the refrigerator causes defect in the metal around the bulb socket and causes the bulb not to make a secure connectioin. So to repair your problem you can first off make sure the bulb is securely screwed into the socket. If it does not work you can check the voltage at the socket for the 110 volts. You can do this with any volt meter if you have one. Sometime the new bulbs can also be bad, its rare but possible. If you are not getting the proper voltage to the socket then you may need a door switch. If you have another light working in the freshfood then the door swith will not be the problem. The door switch is the only power feed swith to the socket, so one of those two will definately fixYa. Good luck and have a great day.

Go to page 18. It will show you the way to replace the bulbs. Hwever, if there is an internal circuitory damage, I would recommend you to get it checked by a service technican or else you may damage some other parts.

Thanks

I would, with the power off, check the integrety of the center terminal in the light socket itself. These can sometimes lose tension and not make good contact.

There should be a plastic grille mounted on the ceiling of the fridge, usually, a good tap with the palm of your hand, towards the rear of the fridge will pop the grille loose and expose the light bulbs. Be sure to replace the bulbs with 40w appliance bulbs only! if replacing the bulb doesnt work, you may need a new light switch or the metal tab in the bulb socket may not be contacting the base of the bulb properly...

Freezer lights not working tried bulbs in fridge area and they work so its not the bulbs

Then it's the freezer door switch that controls the light. Although, modern fridges have electronic control boards designed to make your life miserable. Instead of a simple switch with a wire to a light bulb, you may have an entire computer board controlling it. The boards are _always_ expensive as heck. You can try applianceparts.com for replacement parts for your specific model.

(It was the words "Professional Series" that gave me "pause" regarding the electronic wallet cleansing you may have to deal with. I'm sorry, but I'm an old appliance tech that has lived long enough to see these appliances become unnecessarily too expensive to repair a problem that would otherwise have been an incredibly simple and cheap to repair... and frequently not even need a new part. Technology does no favors for owners regarding appliances. It is a cheap way out for the manufacturers because electronic circuit boards made in China are cheaper than the electro-mechnaical devices they replaced, yet cost many hundreds of dollars to buy a replacement circuit board; which is quite literally a scam designed to make you buy a new appliance).

How do I fix the freezer light in my Whirlpool side-by-side/freezer on bottom fridge?

first make sure the light bulb works for sure. then most likely it is the door switch. easy to replace. pull out, disconnect and replace. while you are at it, touch the two wires together and make sure the light goes on so you know it is the switch.

GE Monogram side by side refrigerator not cooling, door not sealing either

You gave an excellent description, but you listed it on the Cars and Trucks section. You will not find too many Experts for Refridgerators on the Cars and Trucks section.

I would listen to the E3 Code and use your Web Browser for your make of appliance. Ask questions like "What is E3 defect in your brand of appliance?". The magnet idea is a good one, but check your door pivots at both the top and bottom of the Fridge. The door may not be aligned.

Some appliance makers have online Manuals for their customers.

For parts or possibly the answer of your E3 question, try Servall. They are a franchise, have been around for over 50 Years and may be listed in your phonebook. If not they have a Website. Also may be spelled as Serveall, but I think it is Servall.

I hope mu solution is helpful.

Whirlpool side by side GD25HAXNQ00 Light is out in fridge - including lights showing temp setting - it is not the bulb - what else can it be. Cooling is still fine with both fridge and freezer

you may need a board that is located on the rear of the fridge. pull the fridge out and unplug from outlet. locate the cover on rear and remove screws and open plastic cover. replace the board and new bulb. try this site and it is a bit pricey. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/Appliance-Parts/whirlpool-electronic-control-board--item-number-ap4334000.aspx but to call a repair service it will be around 300.00

in the fridge compartment check behind the control panel where the light bulbs are remove this cover and make sure the damper vent door opens and closes when adjusted with the fridge control sometimes they ice up from condensation and freeze in one position and this may let too much cold air in from the freezer for too long, otherwise it also could be a defective electronic control board in this same area

My lightbulb in my fridge won't go on

Check the tab in the center of he bulb socket. Unplug the frig first and gently pull it up a little. You should be using a 40 watt appliance bulb not a 60. If the tab is not the problem you may need a new switch.
