Question about Kenmore Refrigerators

Open Question

Kenmore Elite Model 596.73503201 Cooling Issues. The refrigerator and Freezer have stopped cooling. About a year ago I replaced the Overload Switch Relay but reused the capacitor. It is now doing the same thing as before. Ordered a new overload Switch relay. Replaced it. Now the comperssor will click, buss for 5-8 seconds click again and run for 2:1 minutes and repeat. What do you think the issue could be?

SOURCE: The starter/overload and overload protector

The easiest way to find this out , is to check the condenser. Make sure that the condenser is not clogged up with dust and that the condenser fan is working. Replace the start relay. Turn it back on. If it starts right up then it probably overheated and melted the relay due to the condenser fan not working or the condenser clogged with dust. Air circulation through the condenser and air being circulated over the compressor in how it cools itself. If the compressor will not start or if it runs for a little while and then shuts off from overheating, then you have a bad compressor.

SOURCE: frig and freezer not cooling

it is possible that a start relay has gone bad but more likely is that the compressor has seized up. if the unit is under 5 years old most likely the comp will be under warranty from sears. peyton

first take all the relays and capacitor off of compressor , then attach black wire with terminal on "C" terminal post usually top terminal, white wire with terminal goes on "S" terminal post on compressor, red wire with terminal goes on "R" terminal post on compressor. then take the two black wires one connects to white neutral wire and the other connects to the black power wire if tis fridge has a condensor fan then you will also need to connect it two the two black wires also thanks hope this helps

SOURCE: replacing overload relay/capacitor on compressor of maytag fridge

replacing a start relay is very easy to do. usually its a swap the part wire for wire operation. in some cases you get a different looking relay but they normally have good instructions for the replacement part. if you'll post the model numebr fo your unit i can give you detailed instructions. thanks peyton

Compressor is cycling on the overload protector. If refrigerator is over five years old the warranty may be expired. I which case I never recommend replacing the compressor if the customer is to bear the full expense.

Warm refrigerator/freezer

very good chance it is the same problem or possibly a leak of refrigerant due to joint failing where compressor is joined to pipework
