SOURCE: i have problems with my m149 neumann

Hi wirus

This mic is worth more than $4,500 to purchase. I strongly recommend that you refer it to a Neumann service agent(with power supply) to have it checked out. There are no user serviceable parts inside the mic, and cleaning should only be serviced by qualified and trained personnal. I expect that you have already checked leads and so on.

Go to this site, for a service agency in your part of the world. Good luck with sorting out the drama. Hope you get back to recording real soon :)

Popping sounds only during video/ you tube on tv from my computer.

Because of the amount of voltage required to run the older-style "tube" televisions, many problems, sounds and noises occur in tube televisions than in the newer, flat-panel televisions. Sounds occur for multiple reasons, with some being just part of the normal process these televisions run through in order to operate. On the other hand, some of these noises may indicate a problem with the television that could warrant repair.

Worn Insulation
Voltage against metal. Inside your television's tube, there are many wire parts that electricity runs through in order to make the television run. Usually, these parts are insulated with a rubber or foam casing that prevent the sound of the electricity. If the insulation surrounding these components is thin, weak, worn or absent, you are bound to hear buzzing, popping and cracking sounds coming from your television. While this may not mean you have to run out tomorrow and get a new one, the chances are that your TV's tube is working extra hard to make it all happen for you, and you may want to start pricing new sets for the near future. b> Static During Warm-Up b> Just like rubbing your feet on a thinly-carpeted floor can cause static electricity, the same can also build up inside your television. If the noise is relatively subtle, only occurring when you first turn it on, and not overly-disturbing, the chances are that the cracking and popping sounds you are hearing are just the television's way of warming up and getting rid of the unnecessary electricity. Bad Lamp b> Deep inside the heart of your tube television, there is a light-bulb fixture that makes the entire unit light up so that you can see a picture. If the cracking and popping sounds you are hearing tend to go along with the picture on the TV becoming unclear, it could be that the picture tube is failing. It is very difficult and costly to replace the picture tube on a tube TV, so this is an instance where you may benefit more from buying a new television than taking the old one in for repair. Hope this helps.

Neumann TLM mic is inoperative when connected to PA with same cable that worked with Shure SM 58 mic

The Shure SM58 is a dynamic microphone instead of the electret one Neumann TLM 103. This means that Shure does not need a phantom power supply voltage, instead of Neumann TLM 103; this one needs 48Volts. Here are the specifications for each one of the microphones: Shure SM 58 - Neumann TLM 103. In case you use a pre-amplifier or an audio console try to locate a switch marked as "Phantom Power" and turn it on. Typically there is no problem supplying a phantom power at the SM58. In case you have no phantom power switch available, either post back the mixer brand / model to check it for you, or post me a question to suggest you one. Details about the usage and the mixer you are already using will help me to clarify the total audio situation.

In case of a problem or clarification or further details needed, don't hesitate to post me a reply before rejecting my answer.

When plugged into the board, it just makes a rumbling noise, similar to the sound of wind against the mic. No other sound comes through.

First try another cable. If still bad, try another channel on the mixer. Obviously , you know this microphone requires phantom power.

If all fails, then the capsule o the microphone is shot. Either from being dropped, or excessive spit/moisture getting on the capsule.

Hope this helps.

I need a tube replacement for neumaan 147

Vacuum tubes are available, but in order to maintain the very high quality of such a wonderful sounding microphone I would very highly recommend paying extra and getting your tube direct from Neumann. They list dealers at http://www.neumannusa.com/dealers-neumannusa.asp so find the one nearest to you. As long as you are talking to them, you may want to consider asking if there are any alignments or updates that would apply to your unit either because of the tube replacement or just general product updates.

NEUMANN U89 SOUNDS VERY FAINT

Your mixing board may not be supplying 48 volt phantom power, which is required by the U89. Check with a voltmeter from pin 2 of the XLR to pin 1, see that it's 48 +/- 4 volts.
