Kenmore electric range

Put food in oven, ran errand, when returned lots of smoke and oven very hot. Turned off circuit breaker. Two codes on the stove E3 and F3. Any idea what these mean?

I was using the oven on 350 and then the broiler went on by itself and a F3 code was flashing it was really smoking the smoke alarms went off. The only way to shut it off was to shut the breaker off. When I turned the breaker back on after about 30 minutes the broiler came back on with the stove not even being on.

Hi dlingquilt,
The f3 , e3 code is a faulty oven temperature sensor. If the temperatur sensor has gone bad during mid cycle then you may have overheated the oven aswell. It is never a good idea to leave a oven unattended while in operation. The temperature sensor can be replaced easily and inexpensively.
First off be sure to disconnect the power to the range. If you look inside the oven near the top you will see a little metal probe about the size of a pencil sticking through from the back. That is your temperature probe. It is held inplace by two 1/4 inch screws. You will need to pull the range out and remove the back panel to access the probe. This is a fairly simple repair and the error code should go away once the probe is replaced. If you would like me to ship you one of these I can send it out in the morning. The price is $59.99 shipped to your door. I can ship anywhere in the United States within 1-2 days. good luck to you and please dont forget to rate me.

Runaway oven temperature, two possible causes. The oven temperature sensor is bad, or the oven control (The oven control has the clock built into it also)

Sorry to read about your problem
Your F10 code means Runaway Temperature and f30 means open probe connection. try this and see problem comes back.
1. Unplug the unit or turn the circuit breaker off for 60 seconds.
2. Now, restore the power to the appliance by plugging it back in or turning the circuit breaker back on.
3. Check to see if the error code is still displayed on the range.

Correct wire gauge and circuit breaker to use?

If it is only the oven that is electric and not the entire stove, the required wire size is 10/3 with ground and a 30AMP circuit breaker. If it is the entire stove then you need 50AMP range cable and a 50AMP breaker. If your doing your microwave also, you need a 20AMP breaker and the wire you need is 12/2 with ground.. If the current breaker you were running was 30AMP I would keep that for your oven and run new wire for your microwave.

Kenmore Elite Oven/Stove Fire Hazard?

F05 has to do with the self cleaning mechanism. I know it goes with out saying, but sparks and smoke are a bad thing. i would strongly suggest turning off the breaker and calling in a service person.

Smoke means extreme heat or FIRE is melting something..
Please be safe and have it fixed..

Self clean mode causes a lot of smoke!

If the oven was really dirty, particularly with grease and unsolid food stuffs, then you will see smoke come out.

The self clean features basically incinerates the food residues in the oven. With incineration comes smoke.

If you feel there is a problem with the electrical circuits, then we would recommend that you call an appliance technician to inspect the unit for any faults.

Reply back what you find.
