Question about Hitachi 43GX10B 43" Rear Projection Television

Hitachi 43GX10B Convergence Trouble

I'm very glad there is a message board like this - i'm hoping someone can help me - I've read through some posts and thought I was having the common convergence problem and I've already replaced both STK IC chips which has not helped a bit. The blue is off in ALL nine areas and I can't get it to move up or down but it will move some left or right. There must be at LEAST 1 resistor out but it isn't something obvious since nothing appears to be burned. I do have a meter to use if I knew where to check for an open. It's a very basic meter so I'm hoping I can test it out of circuit with the board out of the T.V. I can check continuity and that's about it. I'm hoping someone will know what this is since it doesn't appear to be as common and with what i've already done it sounds like only the resistors could be the culprit - my luck I was afraid it wouldn't be as easy for me as it has been for alot of other people on here. Thanks for any help

The screen looks like its in 3D, and when I push the convergence adj button red and blue lines, lined up green line is wavy.

Your convergence has failed and needs to be repaired. Once quick test is to goto your convergence menu and see if you can adjust red and blue. If not its has failed and needs to be fixed. You can call in a repair shop or you can get the parts and instructions from www.TvRepairKits.com and do the repair yourself. Its a fairly easy DIY fix.

The color has gone crazy on you because your convergence IC's have gone bad.
These operate at a very high temp, and usually only last 4-5 years.
If you remove the back of the set, you will want to look for the BIGGEST heatsink in there, on that heatsink, you will see 2 lage IC's , probably STK392-110, or STK392-150's you can go on ebay to order the new ones, but MAKE SURE they are Genuine SANYO IC's and not counterfiet cheapies. the cheap ones may only last 2 months..
You will also need some "Heat transfer paste" - you can pick this up at radio shack.
Once you remove the old IC's, test all the large resistors near them.. pull one side of the resistor out of the board so you can check it out of circuit. they will usually have the value in Ohms, printed directly on the resistor, but you may have to use the resistor color code to find out what value they are....However, usually if there is any damage, the resistor will look like it has been HOT or fried. replace the IC's and any bad resistors, and you should be good to go.
If after replacing the IC's and any defective resistors, the convergence is still bad, make sure to use a multimeter to check ALL fuses on the boards, --- sometimes when the IC's go, they will take out a fuse to the convergence power supply. If you find any bad fuses, replace them accordingly!
Hope that helps!

Hitachi 43GX10B 43 in. Rear Projection TV has sound, but no picture

Is the Lamp ok? Go to the rear of the set and turn on the set with your remote while looking at the vent slats. If you can see a bright light through the vent slats then your Lamp is working. If the lamp is on and you have sound and no pix, then the Digital bd is in what we call "Video Mute" and will have to be replaced. Also make sure that the Lamp Door is installed and the screws are tight
also check to ensure the following.....
1. re-seating the DVI cable on both sides
2. Check to be sure the lamp door sensor is closing (that is not your issue but i thought i would post the complete answer)
3. Check colorwheel is spinning up (should be a low hum, and not sound like a fan)
*** it is very possible it is a failed colorwheel, but the set should go into shutdown, so it is probably not the issue.
4. If the set has sound but no picture replace DMD board....

If the set is working and then just stops working best bet is the DMD ( i would not replace just the dmd it is cheaper in most cases and much easier to replace the lightengine) but if the set just is not working and just failed and is now always not working best bet is the digital board.

If you have an osciloscope you can measure the video signal from the Digital board and see if it is present with the no picture, if it is then it is a bad DMD but if the video signal disappears of then you have a failed Digital board. You can not us a computer USB scope, they can not read most of the data from the digital board since they use multiple scan rates and wont trigger on them for some reason, a old school scope works best i have found, or one of those new LCD scopes that have an auto trigger work well i have found that it is all i use anymore.

you can find a service manual with schematics at a very cheap price at ebay......

regards
iversh

Convergence problem

Well you need to get into your tv's service menu and service convergence mode. It's different for every tv. It means entering a code on the remote that opens up a secret menu for changing tv settings. Go to servicemanual.net and buy the service manual for your set, you'll be glad you did.
