SOURCE: kenmore 70 series washer does not agitate or spin

The problem you have sounds like a broken motor coupling. The following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385250-replacing_motor_coupling_kenmore_top

The motor coupling is located between the drive motor and the transmission and takes the place of a drive belt. They do wear out and can break. The piece that you found could be part of the rubber bushing that sheared off. The replacement part number is included in the link I provided and is an improved upgraded coupling that is more resilient. It should last longer. If you have questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

A replacement coupling can be purchased on line at appliancepartspros.com for about $11. Just use the part number in the link and "Search by Part Number" for your search criteria.

SOURCE: Kenmore 90 series washer w broken belt

Hello I'm afraid you didnt find a belt but maybe a piece of the coupling. Here are detailed instructions on replacing a coupling: from the limited information this sounds like it's going to be a broken coupling. Kenmores are usually direct drive machines made by whirlpool, this means they don't have a belt. Instead the transmission is connected directly to the motor via a coupling. This is what a coupling looks like: 0c6b869.jpg To confirm this pull the machine forward enough that you can lean it back and it will stand back under it's own weight. Wedge something underneath the chasis so it does not fall on you while your accessing the bottom. Go under the Machine and locate the motor, You will see the pump connected to the motor connected to the transmission. 1. Unplug the wire harness from the motor then. 2. Use a screw driver remove the 2 clips holding the pump in place and remove or push the pump out of the way. 3. You will need to remove the 2 screws from the brackets holding the Motor in place with a nut driver. 4. With a screwdriver remove the 2 clips holding the motor in place (be carefull to support the motor as the clips comes off) 5. remove the motor and drop it onto the floor. Now you will see the coupling..one side on the motor the other side on the transmission the rubber connector in between. Replace the coupling if broken or worn and reassemble the washer in reverse order. Now you should be all set. Be aware you may smell rubber on the first couple loads this is normal after replacing a coupling. Good Luck!! if you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to comment again. Mike p.s Please remember to rate my solution since this helps me to help other people :) Thanks!

My kenmore washer will not agitate or spin. It makes a noise when it is trying to agitate the clothes or in the spin cycle.

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (110.#######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive washers use a "Motor Coupler" between the motor and transmission.

It's used as a fail safe device and consists of three parts.

Two of the parts are the same, plastic units with three prongs that fit on one of the motor output shafts and the other on the transmission input shaft. Between them is a rubber piece with six holes.

The power from the motor is transmitted through the rubber piece to the transmission.

The other shaft on the motor directly drives the pump. This is likely why the machine drains.

If the motor coupler is broken, or worn, the motor may not be able to send full power to the transmission for agitating or spinning.

See the following for how to remove the cabinet, pump, motor and motor mounting plate to inspect and replace the motor coupler.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=137

If the coupler looks damaged, it's a relatively easy fix.

Pry the plastic pieces from the motor and transmission. Some people use a claw hammer but I've found that using a small (6 inch) pry bar works well.

Carefully fit the plastic pieces over the motor and transmission shafts and press them in place (Use a 1/2" of larger socket to put pressure equally around the pieces.

Put the rubber piece on the transmission plastic piece.

Replace the motor mounting plate.

Carefully line up the plastic prongs on the motor based plastic piece to the three un-used holes in the rubber piece. If they don't line up right, the coupler could be damaged.

Mount the motor, don't forget the two screws, put the pump back on the motor and use its' clips.

Put the cabinet back on, don't forget to plug the lid switch back in and re-mount the console.

I have a Kenmore washer that has trouble agitating. I took off the cap on the agitator and tightened the bolt that goes into the agitator. This fixes the problem for a while. Pretty soon the agitator...

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

There are two "bolts" for the agitators (assuming that you have the basic split system) The bottom agitator turns back and forth and the top section only turns one way.

The top section (when you remove the cap) usually has a plastic 1/2" square drive bolt.

If you remove the bolt and top section of the agitator, you should see a second 5/16" stud. under the stud is a rubber washer.

The first thing I'd do is pull both parts of the agitator and look at the splines inside of the lower agitator and the splines on the transmission agitator shaft. If either of them is worn / broken, your washer won't agitate. Also make sure that the two pronged "washer" is in place on the transmission agitator shaft and that the clip that holds it in place is fit.

If the splines are OK, I'd carefully put the lower agitator back on. Check the condition of the rubber washer on the stud. Install the stud and do not over-tighten.

Put the top agitator on tighten the 1/2" bolt carefully. Don't over-tighten.

Beyond that, you may be looking at a clutch or transmission problem.

Will not agitate or spin

The top load, direct drive, neutral drain Whirlpool / Kenmore washers use a "Motor Coupler" between the transmission and motor.

When the motor goes into drain / spin mode, it reverses and drives the pump to drain the washer.

If the motor coupler is damaged / broken, the motor cannot get power to the transmission to agitate or spin.

This is a relatively easy fix for the basic Kenmore / Whirlpool washers.

Kenmore washer 80 series 110 model not spinning.

unless your washer is over 20 years old, then it wont have a belt. the temperature of the water wont have anything to do with it spinning or not.
need to know if it agitates or drains and just wont spin.
if it agitates but no spin or drain, then you have a bad lid switch.
if it wont agitate or spin, but will drain, then you have a broken drive coupling.

Kenmore model 110 will not agitate or spin............ it will fill with water and drain ........but will not spin or agitate.............. you can hear the motor runniing

You have a broken drive coupler. This is a very common part that fails. This is the piece of rubber between the motor and the transmission. Lean the machine back and reach behind the motor and you will be able to feel the rubber coupler wiggle. This is supposed to be tight. Another sign of it being bad is rubber on the floor under the machine. I replace at least 5 a week. This is your problem for sure. The part number is 285753. You can order this at sears.com or your local parts store should have it in stock.

Kenmore 110.24642300 won't spin

This sounds like a typical symptom of a broken motor coupling. Click on the following link for step-by-step instructions on how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385250-replacing_motor_coupling_kenmore_top

These instructions will give you the necessary information to take the washer apart to get to the motor coupling to see if it has failed. A tell tale sign is black rubber dust particles under the washer where the drive motor is located. Usually the rubber bushing shears apart, or the plastic tines break off the coupling itself. If the motor coupling is broken a replacement can be found at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your model number and the coupling can be found under the "Brake/Clutch/Gearcase/Motor/Pump" heading on the next page as item number 13. The part number is 285753A. This is a very simple repair job. If need further assistance, or have any questions please let me know. For quicker responses to your questions, please go to my profile and use the "Ask Me" feature. 1975 whirpool washer

This problem is usually caused by the wig-wag not functioning. There are ele celinoids on it and they go bad. If the washer agitates properly but you just dont get the spin cycle, its probably the wig-wag. You can look up the part on sears parts site and see if it is still available or obsolete.
