Hotpoint side by side noise

My refrigerator started a few months ago by not letting you get ice out of the door, it makes ice fine. Now it is making a plop plop sound most of the time and is not getting cold as it should be. When you open the door when this noise is happening the inside light goes dim with the noise. Can you help me

it finally died altogether, it was the main control board or the mother board, ge knows they have a problem with this, they have extended the warranty of this part for 36 month replacement, my refrigerator was 37 months old, got nothing.

My freezer began with the same issues. I removed the ice bin and found a plastic wrapper (item in the freezer) was wrapped around the motor "arm". I had to twist the motor to get it out, now it doesn't work it all.

What's interesting, and hasn't been mentioned yet, is that when I push the ice dispenser lever (water works fine) the freezer compressor shuts off for 20-30 seconds and the lights dim.

I disconnected the auger motor (took the cover off, etc...) and the compressor still turns off when I depress the lever is "ice" position.

This indicates to me (a VERY novice handyman) that it's NOT the auger/dispenser moter, rather something further up the circuit.

    Would appreciate thoughts on this.

If it is the board, how difficult is it to switchout once I remove the cover?

    Thanks!

Ok.... the circuit board was bad. As my unit was only three years old, they simply charged me $100 for the service call.
I probably could have replaced it myself. Simply take the panel off the back and use common sense.

Have you made sure that the ice tray/box is inserted correctly? By lifting up and inserting the box until it goes in all the way. Also, check the ice chute from the inside and look for any obstruction such as ice formed/melted causing the blockage. Once you correctly insert the ice tray back in, try the ice button to reset the paddle drive. Also, these icemakers are slow to deliver when the ice bin is low in ice. FYI, if you stack too much frozen goods underneath the area below the ice tray, the paddle drive mechanism will sometimes come into contact with the food packaging. The wrapping from the packages can get caught under the paddle drive and creat a problem by slowing it down. Check and clear it. Be sure to unplug the refrigerator before you do this. Let me know if this helped.

If the defrost thermostat is bad it will need to be replaced, otherwise you will have to continuously manually defrost the unit. The noise you hear is probably the fan hitting the ice. The defrost thermostat assists in melting that ice about every eight hours.

I have the exact same problem.
It stopped dispensing water and ice, then it started to make a clicking noise and now the freezer and the refrigerator don't work.

It's interesting that this failure occurred 3 months after the 5 year warranty expiration.

We have a Hotpoint side by side fridge. It always makes

check the door in the dispenser if moisture is condensing and freezing so that the door won't open try manually popping the door open just before you attempt to dispense ice, maybe you'll get lucky, otherwise your going to have to get a technician to come and check the micro-switch for the dispenser

Frigidaire side by side freezer - LOUD noise...

It sounds like the evaporator fan is hitting ice that is built up on the evaporator coil. When it's making the noise, open the freezer door and see if it stops.
(Most models are wired so that the evaporator fan cuts off when the freezer door is open.)
Check the inside back, lower panel of the freezer for ice built up or frost on it. If there is, you have a defrost problem that is most likley a bad heater. It's located around the coil inside the freezer behind the panel you will be looking at. The defrost problem would explain the freezer not freezing ice cream.

Loud noise from the freezer side

The problem is a buildup of ice on the plastic housing (the curved plastic bit) in the back of the freezer under the fixed shelf where the icetub goes. The fan behind this plastic housing is hitting the ice when the defrost comes on.

Unplug the fridge, unpack the freezer, remove the four screws in the back, take off the sheetmetal backing and let the fridge thaw. You can remove the plastic piece after a while and get the ice off (be careful not to remove the styrofoam insulation by going too quickly).

Reassemble and you're back in business, for a few months. I'm never buying Samsung again myself.

Zanussi Electrolux frost free fridge/freezer - freezer defrosting

My husband left the freezer door open a couple of months ago, causing ice to form. The loud rattling noise was the fan hitting the ice. The reason why the temperature started to rise but the noise stopped was because the fan had got stuck in a block of ice and was no longer working. Simple solution - defrost the freezer for 24 hours. Touch wood, it is all working fine now!
