I had the same problem. It was due to the graphics card failing due to overheating. I was able to get a display using an external monitor and booting Vista into safe mode (although the image was covered in random dots).

I got my laptop repaired by PC World's Tech Guys who replaced the motherboard. HP have a recall out on many laptop models (although not on the dv9299ea unfortunately), and you may be able to get them to repair it for you (although this could be expensive if they dont cover it under the warrenty).

First, turn on the system and check if you can still hear the start up sound for Windows (XP / Vista). If you can still hear the sound, that means that the system is is running OK and it is just the connection of the LCD monitor to the motherboard. You can call the laptop's manufacturer to help you just reconnect the LCD cable to bring back the display.

If there is no sound, then try to connect an external Monitor to you laptop (CRT or LCD monitors will do..), check if there is a display on the external monitor (depending on the laptop model, you will have to press Fn + F1-12 (Check the drawing on the keyboard to know what to press). to transfer the display to the external monitor, if that is not working then there is a high possibility that the problem is on the video card.

When I turn on my HP Pavilion 1x1000 It stays on ,but there is no image on the screen, and stays on please help.

A) Post THE Product Number on the bottom of the laptop. It's in the white Service Tag. P/N = Product Number.

B) On the left/bottom side of the LCD screen frame (Display Bezel), there is a switch. Looks like a small button.

This is the Internal Display Switch. (May not be in this exact position for your model. Look around on the Display Bezel, that surrounds the LCD screen)

When the laptop is closed, the switch turns off the display, (Image on screen), with the computer still on.
Tap it a couple of times lightly, with the eraser on the end of a number 2 pencil.

See if anything happens. That switch may be bad.

C) Laptop off, monitor off, connect a VGA monitor to the VGA port on the laptop.

Example of a VGA cable, and VGA connector, (Port),

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector

You can use a CRT monitor, (Looks like a small TV), or a flat LCD screen monitor if it has a VGA cable.

C) Turn the monitor on. If a CRT type of monitor allow it to warm up.
Turn the laptop on.

By factory default settings, the display should show on the external VGA monitor.

IF not;
There are at least 3 display options,

1) Internal monitor of laptop ONLY
2) Internal monitor AND external VGA monitor
3) External VGA monitor ONLY

Press, and hold down on the Fn key. At the same time tap once on the Display Toggle-Over key.

Don't know what exact HP laptop you have. For most HP's it is the F2 key, or the F4 key, that is the Display Toggle-Over key.
(Key has an empty rectangle on it, with a vertical line on each side)

Still no display on the external VGA monitor?
Hold the Fn key down again. (Bottom left of Keyboard)
Tap once more on the Display Toggle-Over key

NO display on the external VGA monitor, means you have a bad graphics chipset.

(By using an external VGA monitor, you are bypassing the Internal Display Switch, and the Display Assembly. (Internal monitor of laptop)

If you have a display on the external VGA monitor, you have a problem with;

1) Video Cable, (Display Panel Cable for HP)
or
2) Display Assembly

Post back with your results, and if you have a display on the external VGA monitor, we will go on.

If you do not have a display on the external VGA monitor, you are looking at motherboard replacement.

Post back in a Comment.

I turn on my laptop it display green light that its booting but not displaying anything, later on the green light stop but the fan is still working, the system still on. please help me out with it.

I think that the first thing you should check is the display itself. Connect the laptop to an external monitor to see if you get video output.
Also, be sure you haven't accidentally turned the video off using the Fn plus special function key combo that switches displays between the laptop and external.

My hp compaq model 510 is not working with projector.projector is not working on this laptop plz provide a proper solution.

You are not providing enough information to help you.
Have you set the display to use an external monitor or dual monitor? That is how laptops work with projectors. You normally can set the system for dual display and either mirror the displays or use the second display (projector) for power point or other presentation.

If this does not fix the problem, post more information on why it is not working for you.

Laptop comes on but screen is black/blank

If you don't see anything at all and it has not been dropped or banged it maybe something as simple as the Video out selection. Look at the keyboard and locate the [FN] and the [F4](Actually look for the key with a small video screen on it which is usually the F4 on HP machines). After turning the computer on press and hold the [FN] key then press the [F4] Key. There are 3 modes programmed into the video selection. Computer monitor, Computer monitor and External Display and External Display only. What happens a lot of the time is someone may have accidentally pressed this combination of keys and the video is actually redirected to the external monitor only option. If this does not help and you can connect the computer to an external monitor and use that key combination to get the output to that screen then the problem is most likely the Back light for the monitor of the screen itself. Both can be replaced. HP can provide the back light part at a reasonable price. For the screen itself I recommend you go to someplace like E-Bay and purchase the replacement. Make sure you look at the sellers past record so you don't get taken. I DO NOT recommend using Craig's List for anything.

My screen does not turn on, the computer is on the fan is working but i can not see anything it is black

Usually this indicates the backlight or thebacklight power has failed. It can also be that someone hit the function keys and turned off the display. It can also be the video section has failed.

To check you need to plug the laptop into an external monitor. If you see anything that means the video is fine but the backlight is out or the screen is turned off with the function keys. Usually it will auto detect if there is something plugged in and switch the monitor but the odd time I've run across where it has to be switched by using the function keys. That will be by pushing the FN key (lower left) and the F key that has a little monitor on it. You need to press the FN key and hold it down then push the F key. Do that about 3-4 times to cycle through the settings and watch the monitor and screen.

IF we get external video but nothing on the laptop screen then we can be pretty sure the backlight or its power board is the problem. That is covered under warrenty or you can get a repair shop to do it for about $100 or if you want you can find the parts for about $50 (and up) and instructions on how to do it. If you search for laptop repairts you should find hundreds of websites. Then look for your model and the parts. You may have to look but quite a few of these sites have step by step instructions and or videos showing how to do it. Believe it or not the hardest bit is getting the plastic case on the display apart.

Hp 6735s was used last night and shut down properly but this morning turning it on the system continue booting without displaying anything on the screen which makes it blank / black........ Please I need...

If there is a display switch in the functions on the keyboard (most likely will look like a laptop monitor or a computer monitor on the keyboard). Press the function key and the button associated with that and wait 3 to 4 seconds (you may have to press it multiple times) If you have anything in the vga slot, then it may think a monitor is plugged in and won't display the laptop screen.
If none of the above work, then maybe your computer is having a systematic failure, or the screen connector is loose.

DV8309 power up problem: blue lights on for few seconds then off

The inverter inside the lcd panel is most likely your problem. Try removing the whole lcd screen from the laptop if you are capable and run it with the external screen to confirm. leave the lcd switch off (this lcd switch above the power button turns the lcd inverter on and off)

Hear power on, black screen. wont do anything.

- try to connect you machine to an external monitor
- if the display appears on your external monitor the problem would be the LCD screen of your laptop (need to replace it)
- if there is no display on both laptop and external monitor i suspected it's the motherboard faulty
- send your laptop to service center to replace it (if it is underr warranty it's free

HP pavilion 1000 screen is black. I can not make out anything on the screen as the ccfl bulb is not lighting, I have changed the bulb, and tried two new inverters and nothing its really annoying me now any...

If you are not getting anything on the display, it might be the display itself. Try to hook the computer up to an external monitor. If you get a display on the monitor (be sure to push the Fn key and the appropriate F key to switch displays), then it's your LCD screen. If there is nothing on the external display, your video card is bad. The video on this screen might be integrated into the motherboard.
