Question about Hitachi Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a Hitachi tv, with dish satellite and recently it seems the picture is projecting too large and cutting off subtitled movies, tops of peoples heads, etc. How do I change the settings so this does not happen?

SOURCE: Picture too large for screen

The aspect ratio is zoomed in. Change the aspect ratio and the picture will go back to normal.

SOURCE: screen cuts off top of heads

Check the menu settings for the picture. You may be expanding the image to fill the sides, in the process, cutting the top and bottom.

If it only does it via the coax or cable fitting it may not be the set.

Does it do the same thing when playing a DVD etc?

If problem is on all inputs it is a deflection problem in the set which for whatever reason has over scanned the picture to tall---it suggests a problem in the Vertical deflection circuit of the set (top to bottom is vertical deflection).

Picture on Olevia lcd is too large for screen.

If you are on a cable or dish box, check aspect setting from you box, TV needs to be 16-9 or full, set TV first then change setting on box.

My tv zooms in and changes the format.

This is normal - you are zooming in on the picture. Most people use the zoom feature to "stretch" a widescreen movie so it will fit the screen.

you might have bad caps or the vertical output integrated circuit, try to locate the vertical ic and check the surrounding areas for bad capacitors.
