Question about ASUS Computers & Internet

Asus x58c factory settings

I got this laptop as a gift. Windows Vista Home Basic was already on it, there was no installation disk. After the laptop crashed and wouldn't let me back into windows I installed XP. Now I have no sound. I tried resetting to factory settings but it asks for a bios password, which I also do not have. HELP? I'd like to restore to factory settings, but simply having sound again would be satisfactory.

SOURCE: Is it possible to connect my ASUS X58C laptop to a Win98SE pc

Connect the two computers using the Ethernet crossover cable.
On the computer running Windows Vista, from the Start menu, click Control Panel. Then, double-click Network and Sharing Center. Note: If this doesn't match what you see, switch yorur control panel to classic view..
At the top of the main portion of the Network and Sharing Center window, double-click the Unidentified Network icon.

If network discovery and file sharing are disabled, the following message will appear:
"Network discovery and file sharing are turned off. Network computers and devices are not visible. Click to change..."

Click the message to enable network discovery and file sharing; you may be prompted for an administrator username and/or password.

In the dialog box that opens, select No, make the network that I am connected to a private network. This allows you to initiate file sharing on the two computers without affecting the settings for any other networks.

Icons for both computers should now be visible in the Network window. Double-click a computer icon to share printers and other resources.

SOURCE: i dont know how to restore my asus x58c laptop to

Bottom line- You can't. Unlike other electrical equipment there is no magic "factory reset" button. You need at least an OS install disc and a back-up of the drivers. At one time the discs were supplied with PC's but this very rarely happens and the paperwork supplied normally advises you make your own back up discs before you get carried away, but it very rarely happens.

It may be worth looking at why you wish to restore to original, is it necessary?

Problem installing Vista SP1 on Asus G2s

If you tried to install Vista on the Primary drive and formatted the primary HDD your Factory Recovery Partition , most likely has been written over, it's gone. Choose one or the other , Vista or Win 7, start from the beginning, install a clean Vista load, formatting in the installation procedure, form a Vista Installation DVD, follow instructions, boot up, do ALL the Vista Updates, it will take hours of updates, rebooting, updates, rebooting. You will get to the Service Pack's 1 and 2, in 24 hours or so. Put on a pot of coffee and be patience. If you prefer Windows 7 use the same procedure.

Did you do ALL your windows update before the Service Pack? That SP has been out for years? Doesn't your laptop have Windows Updates set to Auto? Choose one or the other, Vista or Win 7 and do a Full Install.

I have had to reinstall a laptop, I installed vista home basic on my daughters laptop only to find out that the product key is for vista home premium but do not have the disk what can i do

This is a guess and a risky one but you could try going into the all programs windows upgrade click on that and it will ask you to enter a product key (I"m assuming you have vista already in and running). The upgrade will download and make sure and activate after you have installed windows home premium. You'll like that edition better anyway.

Unfortunately not, this option is available in Windows 7 but not Vista. In order to repair an installation of home basic, you need a home basic disk.

Install xp on vista home basic toshiba satellite L-40

Yes, Vista Home Basic is junk!

1.Vista is considered an upgrade, compared to Windows XP. Therefore, Vista is not just going to let you install over it.

2.You have to get your Windows XP drivers back.

This is a pretty intricate operation, but once you have detailed information, it becomes do-able.
Below is a link with detailed information, and concise clear illustrations. I felt it would be better to give you this link, to avoid any confusion, and/or misunderstanding of information from me.

How to upgrade from Vista Basic to Vista Premium.

You need a Vista premium disk to upgrade to Vista premium.

Just instert the Vista premium disk and start the installation.

If installation does not start, you will need to boot from setup CD, sometimes you have to change the bios boot sequence in bios settings, to start the installation from CD.

Unable to completely restart windows vista home b

If this is a name brand system, you would need to use either the restore CD/DVD that came with the computer or the restore partition on the hard drive that can usually be accessed by hitting something like F12 (depends on your computer). It sounds like you already reinstalled so the restore partition is out of the question. If you don't have the restore CD/DVD, you may be able to order it from your computer manufacturer. Other than that, you will need the installation disks/files to restore everything.
