Question about Samsung DVD-V4600 DVD Player/VCR
Hi, My combo unit won't turn on. I took it apart, visually checked the capacitors, and replaced the supply unit fuse - 1.6A 250V (I tried 3 fuses). I also checked to cord, removed both the DVD and the VCR units. When I plug in the supply unit there's a very low humming noise. Does anyone have an idea what can be done?
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

SOURCE: DVD VCR combo has no power
I found out what the issue was with my Samsung DVD-V5500. It was the rectifier diode on the 15V tap of the high frequency transformer. This is the same issue that someone else with a later model V5600 had talked about. The diode had shorted and behaved like a piece of wire.
Seems to be a bit of weak point in the power supply. The issue can be diagnosed by using a multimeter to measure the resistance between the diode cathode and ground. If the meter is measuring 1 Ohm between the cathode and ground, your diode needs replacing. I just replaced it with a UF4003 diode from Jaycar, which is basically an Ultra Fast 200V 1A diode suitable for switching the high frequency (20-30kHz) output from the transformer.
The diode is located at the rear right hand corner of the board on the output of the power supply section. A picture below shows the new diode between orientated east-west between the large capacitors. The original diode that failed was an SHG2D SHS.

On the remote, clicked a botton on the bottom. Don't have it with me so can't remember which one. Will look and post answer. Thanks

"Sounds" correct to me. Are you going by the instructions that came with the converter box? And, "ANT In" to the box from your antenna?
