I've got a similar problem: I mean; I've reinstalled my notebook and I've gone through the installation steps for a Windows XP Pro, after having formatted everything, etc.

When Windows tries to open it detects that the licence has to be activated; notice that at that point my notebook is standing alone.

So, after having confirmed that I like to proceed with the Activation, the Activation forms starts to open but never completes to showing up: it stays there, empty and busy.

After having waited for nearly a hour I restarted my PC.

At that point the Activation Form shows up properly but, BUT...!!!

There's no Product Key showing I can tell to the phone... I try to generate a new one clicking on the button retyping the Licence Code, but again no Product Key appears to tell to the phone.

When I call to the 800 number there's only a robot asking for that number and no human operator to talk.

    What should I do then?

How to Activate Windows XP in 5 Minutes or Less
Having rebuilt, tested, and reloaded hundreds of computers, I’ve become keenly aware of one of the unavoidable speedbumps during setup — Windows XP’s product activation. After one too many activations, Windows complains that your product key is no longer valid or you’ve exceeded the limit. To keep Windows on the up-and-up (and stay atop the seemingly endless flood of security patches), you’ll have to activate once more with Microsoft. Here are some time-tested tips that will get you through the mandatory process in five minutes or less.

Try Internet Activation First

If you have an internet connection when activating Windows, attempt to use the online route first. In the Windows Product Activation Wizard, choose “Yes, lets activate Windows over the internet now”, followed by “No, do not register with Microsoft”. You may receive a friendly “Thank you!” and your copy of Windows will be good to go.
If internet activation fails and the Wizard complains about “too many activations” or an “incorrect product key”, you still have the option of calling Microsoft’s toll free number to activate Windows. As long as the Wizard doesn’t report “invalid product key,” options are still open. An “invalid” (not “incorrect,” mind you) key is one reported or detected as pirated, so you’ll have to find some other way to make your software go.

Phone Activation

Activating Windows via phone is about as enjoyable as a trip to the dentist, but knowing exactly which buttons to push and the right words to say can help cut your time in half and get you the necessary code.
If your online activation from above failed, click the Telephone button to generate an Installation ID, which you’ll read off to a customer service representative shortly. Call the number for your appropriate country, and you’ll enter into a phone menu system which would like nothing more than for you to activate by reading the numbers onscreen. The software behind the menu, however, does the same checking as the online activation method — meaning if your online activation failed, so too will the automated phone activation. Press 0 on the phone keypad when asked if you are calling to activate Windows XP (the first opportunity you are prompted for input). Like many newer phone menus, it will respond “I see that you’d like to transfer to a customer service representative”, and subsequently try to convince you to go back to the automated system. Ignore the pre-recorded woman’s somewhat rude request to go back, and press 1 to to talk to a human.
After a short delay and the distinct possibility of listening to some poorly chosen music, a representative will ask for either the first six digits of your Installation ID, or the full set. (The first six digits of the Installation ID are the only real keys to generating a Confirmation ID, however the reps more often than not ask you to read off the rest of the group. The rest of the numbers are encoded values detailing some very basic hardware details about your computer.)
If asked “Is this the first time you’re activating Windows?”, say yes. If you say no, the representative will ask for an explanation as to why you’re re-activating Windows.
If asked “Did you purchase the software from a retail store?”, say “It came pre-installed with my computer.”
As a final time-kill (their system sometimes takes a minute to generate Confirmation IDs on days with a particularly heavy load), you may be asked for your Product Key (Windows serial number).
After you’ve given them the necessary information, the representative will read the Confirmation ID to you, which you can simply type into the provided fields. Using these methods, it takes about 4 minutes to activate Windows on average.

If you have the actually XP CD and not a copy you can call Microsoft and they will ask you to read off a number from the middle of the CD and they will give you your code - but if you do not have an actual CD of XP then the person who installed XP, did so illegally. If so, I recommend talking to the person who installed XP.

I recently given a cd that had windows xp on it and I installed on my pc and everything went fine but now I am prompted with a 30 day to activate the product key. When I enter my product key on the bottom...

The product key on the XP sticker on the bottom must match the specific Windows XP configuration you're running (a XP Home key won't activate a XP Pro installation). If this is the case, you'll have to purchase a valid license for the specific installation you have, or somehow acquire a valid key for same which hasn't been yet activated.

Your nearest Linux user group could well be swamped in unused XP and Vista CD-ROMs and keys (commonly referred to as "deletium"). You'll need to find someone willing to sell a "open" XP license and not an OEM one, which, while working, wouldn't be actually legit (it doesn't make sense, I know. But commercially and legally, it does). And you'd better get the sticker and replace yours, while you're at it.

There are also utilities out there which will disable the activation request and "unlock" XP, but apart from being illegal, they might interfere with product update and leave you vulnerable to viruses, exploits and the like, and an "unlocked" installation is liable to get locked again by some updated system patch, usually when you need it most. Unrecommended.

I lost the original cd of windows millenium ( i do still have the code) how is it possible to obtain a further cd and is it possible to install xp instead, pc: toshiba satelite laptop

Sorry but you'll have to hunt down a new Win Me CD as your code should still work with Me but not with other Windows tittles. It is possible to install XP but u will have to buy a new CD and license code which might be hard given everything is Vista now.

Best advice I can give is to either check e-bay or use a torrent site to get back Win Me. I like BT Torrent, ISO hunt or Mini Nova the best using BitTorrent or BitLord as clients to download.
Best of luck

Download the six winxp install floppies,,from and install that way.
Your PC was not meant for XP it was meant for Millenium at most.
But if you load through floppies and then use the cd you should be OK

hi, are you using Vista or XP. It seems its Vista and it is not activated. For register number and activation you have to contact the the dealer. Else you can go for XP installation, which does'nt have this trouble.

Thank you for using fxnlogo_s.png

No valid INF file when trying to install Z640 to windows Millenium

The drivers are not designed for WinME.

The Lexmark driver for that model only supports Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003, and Vista.

Unfortunately, none of these drivers will work on WinME.

Windows xp wont reload

This happens so much with upgrades! We think we are making our pc's better, and then find it doesn't like it. I am assuming you completely uninstalled millenium, then tried to load xp? If you did not, the registry still has parts of millenium on it, and is asking for this. You need to completely uninstall millenium first. You need to obtain mill copy, and select uninstall, then when done, put in your new xp disk and try again. Lilacgerry xxx

You can format XP and take necessary data on some disk or pendrive and then format it. And install your millenium in pc. Otherwise insert your millenium cd and reboot your pc. in bios select boot from cd option. Select other drive except in which xp is there. Then you will get 2 options of two operating systems. Select any one you want.
