No Wireless Connection

My wireless connection does not work. I have a modem and a Belkin wireless router. They work because I used another laptop to verify. When we hooked up the internet, the cable technician told me I had to disable something on this laptop. Since then, I can't get a wireless connection. I have my antenna on and the connection is not disabled. I even tried at several different locations with free wi-fi service (Panera Bread, Starbucks, Heine Bros. Coffee) and I get nothing. Can you help?:(

Let’s check the Wi-Fi card on your PC. Go to "Device Manager" and look if any yellow or red alerts are being displayed under the Network Adaptors. If not, make sure the Wi-Fi card shows up under Network Adaptors. To access the "Device Manager" go to the 'Control Panel", "Administrative Tools", "Computer Management" and select "Device Manager" located in the left side column.
If there is an alert, double click on that device to determine the problem, i.e.… device not configured, cannot start this device, etc…

I am using a Belkin router and I cannot connect to Internet

If you connect the computer directly to the modem, does it work?
If that works then the modem is working.
Now connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
You will need to open the set up page of the router to check the settings of the router.
You can set up the router without the CD also.
It is very easy.

What is the Operating system on the laptop ?
If it is XP then in the bottom right hand corner you will find Wireless network connection ( looks like 1 computer monitor). Use that icon to connect to the wireless network.
If it is windows Vista, then in the bottom right hand corner you will find 2 computer monitor icon. Use that icon to connect to the wireless network.
If it is Windows 98/ME/2000 then use the adapter utility to connect to the wireless network.
For MAC you will see the AIRPORT icon at the top.

Check the wireless settings of the router first . Make sure that yopu have all the wireless settings of the router. If you are not sure about the settings, then open the router set up and check the settings.

Belkin Wireless N router/Embarq 660 modem/No internet

Make sure your physical connection is correct. From the modem, the ethernet cable should plugged in to the Internet/WAN port of the router. And your computer to port 1. Access the setup page of the router again and Enable the MAC Address Clone setting. Clone the MAC Address of your PC there then power cycle the router and modem. You should be all set.
