SOURCE: Green LED mobo is steady, fan is on, amber LED on

Its a no post issue, remove the hdd cables from the hdd , remove the memory and remove the expansion cards if there is any. try to power on the system. The power light should glow green if not replace the motherboard and power supply. If its glowing green one by one connect the devices and u may come to know which device is causing the conflict.

Del 320 optiplex orange lite blinks won't boot up

For the Optiplex 320, a flashing amber light with no sound indication can mean 3 things.

1) Your power supply has failed

2) Your motherboard failed, most likely from a bad capacitor.

3) The front panel board (where the power button is located) is faulty or not connected properly.

I've worked with 10's of 1000's of Dell Optiplex's over the past 8 years and the flashing amber light is well known as a tell-tail sign of one of those three failure. Always start your trouble shoot with a PSU tester, then inspect the motherboard for domed or split/leaking capacitors...then on to the front panel which would require another panel and ribbon from the same model.

8.3. 9.0. 4.0. post codes when attempting to boot up.

code 8.3: 12V 4 pin plug disconnected or power supply damage. Check connection /test PSU
code 9.0: OC too high (possible bios damage) clear CMOS as 1st resort

Not sure about 4.0 but 0.4 indicates memory module failure.

Have you overclocked the board? The codes would indicate you went a bit over the top if you did. I'd clear the cmos and check the PSU and reseat the ram and start from the vanilla settings, hopefully the bios chip is not blown

Board is not on.

Hi

Remove any cards on the PC including any USB devices. Open up the case and remove any SATA devices including the HDD . If it boots try and connect some back again until the problem reoccurs. Try and replace the PSU . Go to www.intel.com if its an Intel desktop board

Suddenly died. PSU ok - will not boot up

Most likely, since there is no power or boot indication at all, it may be a motherboard failure.

PC doesn't boot up.

Use jumper to reset cmos. Test or replace cmos battery.Unplug evthing( HDD,CD,DVD,FLoppy) try to start barebone. Test voltage from power supply to motherboard. Try different ram. Good Luck.

Ibm netvista x41 wont power up

measuring 12v at the psu is not enough. the psu have several voltage outputs ranging from 12volts to 3.3 volts and maybe even 2.2 volts.. firstly, check all onboard USB ports, a bent or shorted pin in a USB port will prevent the psu from operating. next, the psu has a safety connection to the mainboard, this is called the power good signal ( pwrgd) and it is a signal from the psu to the mainboard and tells the mainboard that everything in the psu is functioning correctly. If the powergood signal is lost ( drops from 5volts to zero volts) the mainboard will issue an interuppt to the cpu and the cpu will shut down, this will also shut the board down to prevent damage and data loss. mainboards all use pretty much the same connectors so your board will have either a 20 pin power connector or a 24 pin one. It may also have an additional 4 pin connector to power the cpu and northbridge functions. use a known good psu and plug this into your board along with the 4 pin connector and attempt a switch on. If the system begins to boot, replace the psu. if not, try unplugging or removing everything connected to the board, pay special attention to expansion cards and usb ports. remove the ram sticks and video cards if fitted, then attempt to boot again. if the system does not respond, replace the main board. if it now begins to boot, refit everything one item at a time and try starting the machine. turn off before refitting the next item and start the machine up again. when you get to the problem item, the machine will stop starting. If all else fails, replace the mainboard or take the machine to a reputable repairer..

Mobo does not power up Dead cpu dead mobo?

A dead CPU will not hinder a board from powering up. The board is unlikely to POST. However, you should heard attempts at powering up and immediate shutdown. Or, you will see the PSU comes on but system not boot.

No mobo, but, CPU.

If no failed attempts at boot, no indicator lights, then you have either a failed power supply or DEAD motherboard.

Good luck
