Question about Onkyo Audio Players & Recorders
Fist of all you have to check the HDMI cable. It should be 1.3a version.
Another thing is ONKYO TXSR806 is capable of outputing HD video (1080p) at its HDMI output By upscaling. If your tv is not a Full HD one then it will not be able to show the video.
Do one thing Reset the ONKYO to factory default. While in standby mode Press and hold the VCR/DVD Then press the standby button "Clear" will show upon the screen.

Could well be the quality of your cables. if you have high end cables the consult a service agent. if you have the cables that came with the products, go and get some better ones.

try checking the input assignment section and go to Component Video Input. Make sure DVD and CBL/SAT has" -----" on them to prevent conflict. Hope this helps. ^_^

Unfortunately only the higher end Onkyo Reciever pass audio over HDMI for sound. 605,705,805,905 exc. Your reciever will carry Video over HDMI but you will need a digital optical cable for sound.

Not sure if this is your fix, but I had what I thought was the same problem. I played with my Onkyo quite a bit ensuring the correct assignments for HDMI, audio and all that stuff. Turns out I neglected to make sure the output devices were properly assigned. Many devices aren't default to output sound over HDMI. I changed the audio out settings on the cable box to HDMI and suddenly the Onkyo worked great. I know, I'm an idiot for not checking that in the first place, but maybe someone out there is having the same trouble as well.

HDMI switching is an ongoing problem for the 606. A number of people are having the same problem. Mine is at the local repair shop and Onkyo has told them the part is on backorder until April. I would look at another brand or upgrade to a higher leval Onkyo.
