Have just new ish house. Internet if fine .. works ..well ..however previous person has a ADSL Filter. If I take if off .. I get BB but no Internet

The DSL filters should be connected to your telephones, it filters out the internet noise from voice calls.
There should be no DSL filter connecting your DSL modem to the incoming phone line.
(you can have one after the modem to a phone though)
Depending on your phone system, it may interfere with DSL or internet connections without the filters.

If you don't have enough you can pick up extras on ebay, used ones should be just as good as new ones as long as they weren't hit by lightning.

When my cordless phone rings my internet connection drops - can I fix this & if so how? Thanks

From the sound of this it seems like you have a DSL internet connection. If this is the case then you need to have the DSL filters on every phone jack in the house that has a phone attached to it. these filters seperate the DSL signal from the voice/fax signal on the line. If you do not have the filters installed the DSL signal basically gets cut off by the voice signal.

If you do not have any filters you can get them at Radio Shack or maybe Best Buy, but be warned they usually are not cheap.

Hope this helps

Hi
This is Neo . Check the Filters in the phone line if you have installed the filter . if there is no filters before the telephone , install a filter . Whether the phone line are connected properly and check the wall point where the connection from the DSL and telephones . Check the cords and try changing the RJ11 cords . RJ cors the phone thin cords .
NOTE : FILTERS SHOULD BE INSTALLED FOR TELEPHONES BUT NOT FOR 2 WIRE .

We bought the AT&T Motorola DSL Modem today, and we're trying to connect to wireless on a laptop and the connection isn't showing up. How do we fix this ?

  1. Ensure that your AT&T DSL self-installation kit is complete. At minimum, it should contain a DSL modem, an AC adapter, an Ethernet cable, a telephone cable, several telephone filters and an installation CD.
  2. Install the telephone filters on each telephone jack that you have a phone plugged into. Install a dual phone adapter on the jack closest to your computer if you have an answering or fax machine, telephone or analog modem in the same room. Then plug your telephone equipment into the filters. Connect the telephone cable that was provided with your installation kit into an unfiltered telephone jack.
  3. Insert the installation CD into your CD-ROM drive. If the installation program does not start automatically, click Start > Run > and browse to the CD-ROM drive directory to find the installation file.
  4. Connect the telephone cable that is attached to the unfiltered wall jack to the back of the DSL modem. Connect the Ethernet cable to the back of the modem and to the Ethernet network interface card port on the back of your computer. Connect the AC adapter to the back of the modem and plug it into an electrical outlet. Power the modem on.
  5. Check the modem lights. There should be at least two lights lit. These will have labels such as "Power" and "Ethernet." However, these labels may differ depending on the model of modem you received in your installation kit.
  6. Complete the software installation. Enter your chosen username and password when prompted. Check your modem to see if the light labeled "DSL" or "Internet" is lit. Open a web browser window to see if your DSL service has been successfully installed.

My dsl light on my 2wire gateway has been blinking red for an hour, it is past the service activation time and everything is set up correctly but it won't work!

did you install all the filters on all of your phone jacks?
If so then power cycle the modem "unplug it from the ac for 2-3 minutes". Try again
If still no luck open a trouble ticket with att and tell them its not connecting on the DSL side..

Phones will not release hold when picking up on a different phone

Make sure you have filters on the lines between your DSL and your phones. Use the line out from the back of your modem to split to your phones if you don't have any filters. You may have to take line 2 from the back of the DSL modem to send to all of the phones. This is usually a filtered source and should isolate your phones from the DSL. Put the filter on any other devices that are sharing line 2 too, fax, computer, credit card machine etc.

Installing the right filter

No it is not a problem.

The DSL filter filters out the DSL "noise" from the phone line.
Connect the filter to the phone jack in the wall then your fax into the filter.

Need for DSL filters with DECT 6.0?

Yes - you need the DSL filter in jack you plan to use (you need them in any jack with a phone/fax connection. It matters not that the handset is cordless - the connection to the wall needs the filter or your DSL will a) not work or b) work poorly

Do I have to use the DSL filter. I have comcast phone service. thank you

The DSL Filter is only needed if you have a telephone and DSL service coming through on the same line. You are using Comcast digital voice, are you using them for cable internet as well?

I presume you are. then I would say you dont need the filters.
If you still have DSL and home phone then use the filters on the phone

No connection

Did you install the line filter to isolate the dsl side from plain telephone signals? Telephone equipment can interfere with dsl signals if the proper filters arent used. Read this: http://www.hometech.com/learn/dsl.html
