Question about NetGear WGR614 Wireless Router

1 Answer

Unresponsive wireless broadband virgin media

When trying to access the internet without the Ethernet cable, the internet is unresponsive. My computer is able to identify the connection and appears to connect successfully. I am also able to access the internet when plugged straight into the router. I can't get in touch with Virgin media as for some reason they want a security answer which to our knowledge has never been set up.

I have tried many times to reset the router and have tried turning off my firewall temporarily.

  • hvincent Feb 23, 2012

Another thing to add might be that the two other people sharing my house have no problems getting a wireless connection.

Please login to your browser via 192.168.1.1 and change the wireless channel to either 1 or 11.
also if your wifi encryption is set to WEP please change it to WPA2 or WPA.

Thanks. I'm afraid I'm not that technically savvy just yet How do I go about doing this?

  • hvincent Feb 23, 2012

Thanks. I think it's set to WPA2. Under properties > security, it says WPA2-Personal. I have also looked up the DNS via Thomas Durr's method (shown below) and it says I have a 192.168.0.1 server... Not sure what to do with that information though.

  • hvincent Feb 23, 2012

Does it matter that the IPv4 address says 192.168.0.5 ? The default gateway and server is still 192.168.0.1

  • Tony Feb 23, 2012

sorry some reason i thought you had a linksys. Anyways some routers have different IP address settings. I think the easy solution for you is to just reset the router to factory defaults to do this hold the reset button in on the back of the router with a paper clip for 30 seconds with it powered on. then setup the wireless network settings and encryption and try again.

SOURCE: Laptop finding router but no internet connection

If you can connect directly to your virgin Media Broadband and get internet then your laptop and broadband router is fine.

The wireless router appears not to have a DNS entry and you will need to add that manually.

I suggest that you connect directly to the Broadband modem, be sure you can get onto the internet. Once you have confirmed you can get onto the internet you need to get the dns information from your Broadband modem for later.

once connected directly to the broadband modem, click start>run> then type "CMD" then click open. you will get a prompt type the following and record the DNS Server ip addresses.

"ipconfig /all" then hit enter
this will display your ipaddress information but mostly you need the DNS server ip addresses.

once you have recorded them rerun the install, but this time instead of at the end of the install where it shows the Wireless router information you can modify or change it and add the DNS server entries.

Also by default most wireless routers ip address is 192.168.1.1 and you can type that from a internet explorer and change it from there as well. I believe it's no ID or user name and the password is admin.

Good luck

SOURCE: want to get more speed out o my fiberoptic broadand

Well the best router for your connection type would be WNR2000. Even Virgin media recommend this router for their 20 and 50 Meg connection. I am pretty confident that this router will meet your requirement with this ISP connection.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: I have lost the security key or password to

1) Wire your laptop to your router and restart it once.
2) After the restart, go to Run, type cmd
3) Once in the command prompt, type ipconfig
4) In the ipconfig information, there would be default gateway, type that in your internet explorer.
5) It will ask you for username and password. Usually, its "admin" and "password". You can also try "admin" and "admin"
6) Once logged in, look for a wireless tab and under that, security.

You will be able to find your key there.
To have more precise info, you can tell me your router model number.

on your computer try to reinstall the device driver for wireless. try to connect the ethernet cable directly to the computer. if you have internet access, then most likely your netgear router needs to be reconfigured. you need to contact your internet service provider or router manufacturer for the reconfiguration of your router. mostly likely the security settings of the router needs to be changed.

Connecting my dynamode 6004 W G1 wireless router to modem

Cable modems and routers must be turned on in a specific way. First, unplug both the router and modem. Next, plug the ethernet cable from the modem, into the cable router, and unplug the cable from the modem to the computer. Next, turn on the modem, and wait for all of the lights to stay static (usually there's 4 lights, the main one we're interested in, is the status light). Next, plug in and turn on your router. You should now be able to access the router and configure it for your internet connection.

Wireless connection

The first step to try is to reboot both the router and the cable/DSL modem. Turn off your computer, and unplug the router and the modem from the mains. Wait one full minute, then plug the modem back in. Wait until the lights stop blinking (until it indicates a steady connection). Once that is complete, plug the router back in, and wait until it also stops blinking. Once the router and modem are both back on, then turn your computer back on and check to see if you have a connection. If that doesn't work, then take the router out of the picture -- plug a computer directly into the ethernet port on the modem. You should definitely have an Internet connection at that point. If it works, the problem is in the router. If it doesn't, you'll need to call Virgin Media's help desk for assistance.
