Gateway mx3215 freezing on init boot

I have a Gateway mx3215 when turning it on it freezes at the gateway bios boot screen. It allows me to enter the bios settings or if I hit F10 it allows me to select the boot drive, then I can get it to boot. Once in windows XP if I click on the start menu it forces the computer to shut down.

I have the computer set up to dual boot linux, When I can get the computer to boot and get linux up it runs linux fine with no problems.

Is my problem bios going bad, cpu going bad? is there a way to flash the bios?

I actually solved my own problem.

I discovered that the U key on the keyboard was sending a constant signal to the computer, causing it to get confused on boot up etc. once I fixed the U key the problems stopped

Corrupted driver or faulty hardware perhaps.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

SOURCE: Monitor Goes Black

Try to start in safe mode and check if you can change some of the video settings (resolution, refresh rate, etc). Maybe one of these settings is such that the monitor cannot handle properly. To get into Safe Mode, press F8 as soon as you see the Gateway logo on the screen while booting the PC.

SOURCE: Monitor won't turn on, just keeps flashing the gateway logo on and off

Unless there is inadequate ventilation, your monitor could remain on all the time with little ill effect. Actually turning on and off your monitor actually puts more strain on it then leaving it on all the time.

If the gateway screen is displayed for a moment and then just turns off, I believe the inverter board inside the monitor has broken.
What's actually happening is that somewhere in the board more voltage then needed is "leaking" in and the safeguards on the board turn it off to prevent damage.

I would go and get an estimate from a shop. If the price is within 30-50 dollars of a new monitor, get a new one.

Can Gateway MX3215 boot to usb stick?

If you go into the BIOS configuration then the Device boot order and you do not see the USB port in the list, then an USB boot up option is not available.
If it is available the move the USB as the first boot device so you can boot up with an USB memory stick.

I have a gateway gx7022e windows xp computer. When i try to boot it up the white letters pop up then the screen goes to the gateway screen and freezes. Then my num lock comes on but my keyboard wont work....

At power on / power up, look for the key during the bootup (black screen with white text), that allows you to enter SETUP. If none designated such as F1, F2 F10 etc, then quickly click the delete button a few times and that may get you into setup. You may have to turn off the computer if you miss that window of time if it rfequires pressing the delete button a few times. Keep an eye out for the Enter Setup key though. To turn off the computer press and hold the power button 'till is shuts down and resart the process until you get to the setup screen in bios. In setup bios environment, look for set factory defaults and then save and restart. That may solve the issue of the lockup.

HOW DO I PUT ON A NEW OS?

you need to use the the installation cd of the OS (Operating system, eg.Windows) you want to install into the computer. insert the cd and you should get a message to start from cd.

if not then the computer is not set to start up from a cd, you can either enter the setup / bios to change that setting OR right when you power up the computer look at the screen it will say what button to press in order to enter bios thats one way to solve the problem but look for Boot menu, it will very likely be button F12 or similiar, it should say on the screen when you power on.

if it doesnt, then you need to go into the bios and change the boot order so that the computer starts from the CD first.

after that you should be able to start from the cd and install the OS (Operating system, eg.Windows)

heres some info on how to work the bios: http://www.whitecanyon.com/how-to-change-boot-order.php

My recovery CD (gateway 7330gz PC) are no working

I have the same problem with my Gateway 7330gz. My laptop got infected with spywares and it was so annoyed that I have to think about recover the system. So I did it with Gateway Recovery software. I chose the recovery option (press F11 when boot up)from hard drive since my dvd drive was broken. It went well but when it boots up again and Windows XP says detecting and installing the drivers and such, it was frozen haft way through. I turned off power many times to reboot but it kept freezing at that point. I search Internet for help and seen this post. Wonderful! I press F2 to go to BIOS setup screen, use right arrow key to move to Advance menu option. There I use down arrow key to select SpeedStep, hit (-) key to disable it. Then F10 to save and exit, hit enter for OK button. The system boots again but this time it was no longer freezing, the setup process went through ok and continues...I am so happy and type this message so it might help others with the same issue. Thanks
