Question about Audio Players & Recorders

EMERSON MP3 MUSIC PLAYER, EMP312-1, "FILE SYSTEM" ERROR

At first the device worked perfectly. When I tried to delete the existing music and load different songs using the "my computer" function, I apparently erased the driver and all of it's files. I, now, realize I should have simply reformatted it. This was the first time I tried to change songs on the device and I didn't know I was deleting anything unretrievable. The Windows XP operating system loaded a default MTP driver when prompted but Windows Media Player 11 will not detect the mp3 player, even though is shows up as "audio device" on the "my computer" window. Is there some kind of a software download to replace the missing files. I feel that this could have happened to anybody.

  • phrak1618 Dec 24, 2008

Yeah! Same thing. Brand new out of the package and my comp can't find a driver for it. It'll act like it wants to work and then it says it can't find the specified info. I'm assuming the software is on it but it's corrupted. I just opened it! And I guess we're not alone. Man, so much for a cheap X-mas present...

Ok here we go i dunno how i figured this out lol but it took a while. okay so ur gonna go to control panel, device manager, and uninstall the driver for mp3 player. then disconnect mp3 player and reconnect it to reinstall mp3 player. it will recognize it as emerson mp3. right click on it (im running xp) go to properties, click on the tools tab and click on check now on the error checking and select both options of automatic fix file system errors and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. then hit start and it will start the process of fixing the file error. it takes a couple minutes and when its done disconnect the mp3 player n turn it on and voila!!! it works again. if u need more help u can e-mail me at davidh9732@hotmail.com. hope this helps yall so u dont throw them away

Try going to Control Panel, System, Hardware, Devices, click on it and update the driver to the MTP device. Should see Emerson MP3 in My Computer. Or uninstall it and reinstall it CHOOSING the device. My XP system kept pointing to my printer (usb) driver. Worked for me with this EMP312-1, cost $12 at Dollar General. Good Luck. Sometimes we get what we pay for, and sometimes we get a lot for what we pay for.

I had similar problem.
Opened package, downloaded songs to only file on mp3.
Seems driver did not load properly.
Would not show what directions indicated.
Would not play songs and could not find songs on mp3 player. Opened mp3 and made new file.
Made music file and copied songs to new file labled music.
Now plays music on mp3!! Hope this helps someone. I still don't think that it works properly, but at least it plays the music.

Hello, the problem that I have with my SanDisk 2 GB MP3 player is that now, whenever I try to put songs on it, I get a message that "the device has stopped responding" or "the device does...

Try and reset the player first, If this does not fix the problem, Click this link to down load the Sandisk updater program to run a firmware update...Updater... Resetting the device: 1. Press and hold the Power/Menu button for approximately 20 seconds. 2. Release the Power/Menu button. 3. Press the Power/Menu button again to turn on the player.
Next time you need to delete files heres how. --
There are two ways to delete files on your Sansa player. You can delete them from the player directly or using a PC.
METHOD 1 - Delete files directly on the device 1. In playback mode, press the Submenu button. 2. Select Delete.
METHOD 2 - Delete files using a PC For all other Sansa players: 1. Connect your device to the PC. 2. Select Open device to view files using Windows Explorer on initial connection. 3. Locate the folder where your files are stored. 4. Click to select the files you want deleted and delete the files.
NOTE: If songs still exist after deleting, you may need to switch USB modes from MTP to MSC or vice versa. See this tip HERE
Capacity issue This error occurs when a Sansa player is almost filled to capacity. A Sansa player can NOT be filled to full capacity. (i.e. you can't put 2GB worth of songs into a 2GB player)
The player needs the extra capacity to create and maintain a "database", a database holds all the information such as playlists, recordings, song information, etc. The larger the amount of songs, the larger the database gets.
To resolve this capacity issue, you have to delete contents on your Sansa player using a PC.
STEP 1 - Delete files on your player 1. See first note on how to delete files on your Sansa player using a PC.
FAT corruption This error also occurs when there's a file system corruption in your Sansa player.
To resolve this issue, run error-checking to fix errors in your device using a PC
STEP 1 - Connect the Sansa player to the PC in MSC mode
STEP 2 - Run Error-checking to check and fix errors 1. Double-click on My Computer (Computer for Windows Vista). 2. Right-click on the drive letter associated with your Sansa player and select Properties. 3. Click the Tools tab and select Check Now. 4. Click both check boxes under Check disk options. 5. Click Start
If an error occurs while plugging in the player to the PC and some files are missing in the player, the database might be corrupted. To resolve this, you will need to format your player.
NOTE: Formatting will delete all files in the device. Your data (music, photos etc) is NOT recoverable.

I HAVE AN EMERSON MP3 PLAYER VERSION 3.5O.00. WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER SHOWS THAT I HAVE MUSIC LOADED ONTO THE DEVICE BUT WHEN I REMOVE IT FROM THE USB PORT TO LISTEN TO MY MUSIC... THE MP3 PLAYERS SAYS THERE...

I have an Emerson 2gb MP3 player model EMP 312-2, not sure if this info is for you or not. Make sure you are in the MUSIC MODE, when you use the menu button to go from music mode, voice mode, settings etc. you must push menu button again when the mode you want is hi-lited. I had a similar problem. Files were loaded (my music is on my harddrive already so I just copy to mp3 player) but when I turned player on it said no files. AHA, I finally realized I had somehow got into the voice mode and I did not have any voice files, so it said no files. I then went to Folder Mode and it only said micin.dir and it was empty, THAT WAS BECAUSE I WAS IN VOICE MODE, when I switched to music mode, they were all there. I know this sounds very rudimentary, but I am pretty computer literate and had no idea how I switched to voice mode. Before I figured this out for myself I called Emerson customer service, they said it was bad firmware and send it back. If someone there had walked me through what I just told you it would have saved me a lot of time. Hope this helps.

My sandisk mp3 player will not delte music

You probably noticed that the directions for deleting in the manual simply don't work, the option isn't there. There are still a couple ways to do it.

Connect the player to your computer, navigate to the device and select the files you wish to delete, then press delete. Somewhat time consuming if you have a lot of files.

Another way is use Windows Media Player to sync the device. Load your library with the files you want on your player, then sync. WMP will delete all files on the player now, and put only the files you have selected on the player.

HELP!

The manual won't help...here are my guides...

The instructions in these pages, which are largely links, pertain to Windows Media Player 10 and 11 only.

Windows Media Player is made by Microsoft. The general help page for Windows Media Player is:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/default.mspx

Through this link, you can enter a variety of search terms that will help you find what you are looking for (exs.: “add files to my mp3 player”; “delete files from my mp3 player,” etc.)

Important Vocabulary:

The code word for “mp3 player” in Windows Media Player is “DEVICE” or “portable device”

The code word for adding files is “SYNC,” “syncing,” or “synchronizing”

The code word for copying files from CD is “RIP,” or “ripping”

The code word for files stored on both My Computer and my Mp3 player (when it is connected to the computer) is “LIBRARY”

To add files (SYNC) to your mp3 player using Windows Media Player 10:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/windowsmediaplayer/wmp10/harrison_wmp10.mspx

To add files (SYNC) to your mp3 player using Windows Media Player 11:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/faq/sync.mspx

To delete files from your mp3 player using Windows Media Player 10:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/knowledgecenter/mediaadvice/0085.mspx#EDF

To delete files from your mp3 player using Windows Media Player 11:

My Directions:

1. Connect your mp3 player to the computer

2. Open Windows Media Player

3. Click on the icon of your Mp3 player on the left-hand side of the Library

4. Click on the Songs, Tracks, or other Music Folder

5. Find a song or songs that you want to delete

6. Left-click the song once to highlight it

7. Press the “Delete” button on your computer’s keyboard

To copy (RIP) files from CD to Mp3 player using Windows Media Player 10:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/windowsmediaplayer/getstarted/ripcd.mspx

To copy (RIP) files from CD to Mp3 player using Windows Media Player 11:

WMP doesn't recognize the players video file system, or your computer does not have the right codecs for WMP to recognize that file type

Delete from windows explorer instead - but be careful to only delete the videos, and not the system files/folders that control video for this player

you may have to reformat the MP3 player by clicking on the drive its listed under and right click and go to Format. Formatting is done with FAT, not NTFS. This will remove any games or other data on it too. Sometimes the reset thing might work. In general, anything you erase from it using a computer should erase off the MP3 player too.
