SOURCE: i have a hard drive

The password that was created on the hard drive (especially if it came from an IBM, or HP/Compaq) cannot be removed by removing the BIOS battery. The password is stored on the firmware chip and there are no backdoor passwords.
The power on password and hard disk password are created from the BIOS setup and it is stored on an EEPROM chip on the laptop.
These password protection methods are designed to prevent unauthorized access to the laptop its data and the hard disk data. Removing the hard disk and inserting it into another computer will not work.

SOURCE: trying to remove password from

Seems like you set up a password for BIOS. You can't get past without password. Only option left with you is Open the CPU(Tower) and find a small flat circular battery called as "CMOS Battery" on the motherboard
All you need to is to remove the battery and then put back in
You will not be asked for password again on Setup

Have you tried resetting the BIOS defaults? In doing so, it will force IDE re-detection and often resolve vague boot issues.

SOURCE: Hi, I have a HP

Hi, if you are unable to get the bios master password from HP Support then use http://www.unlockbiosrecovery.com/Unlock_HP-Compaq_Bios.php This bios unlocking service can calculate the bios master password just like HP Support that will delete any current set bios password. For $20 unlockbiosrecovery.com will calculate you bios master password and email it to you within a couple hours and they guarantee it to work or you money is refunded. I use them for all laptop bios master passwords on laptops I repair when the bios is locked with an unknown bios password or unknown hard drive password.

HDD Unlock Wizard is a window based utility.

It works as a new life for your locked hard disks, as it is competent to unlock almost all hard disks of major brands available in market.

Its proprietary unlocking algorithms can remove any unknown HDD password and you do not required to give any hint of password as it is not working as a normal password cracker tool.

Removal of a HDD password is a slow process and total time required to remove HDD password is depending on the size of the hard disk and type of hard disk.

A small 2.5" notebook hard disk takes more time as compared to normal Desktop hard disk.

Presently it supports IDE and SATA hard disks.

hope this helps

I forgot my password and need help to get it back

Which Password? Bios Password? Hard Drive Password? Windows Welcom Screen Login Password?

Which Operating System?

If it's the BIOS Password you will have to take the laptop apart to get to the CMOS Battery and remove it.

OK, if you are running Windows 7, Microsoft tightenedsecurity on it so you've got to have a password reset disk which 99% of thepeople who own laptops with windows 7 fail to do. It should be one of thefirst things you do when you buy the laptop. Otherwise, you're faced withreinstalling the Operating System or possibly doing a System Recovery.

If you're on Windows XP or Vista try this:

Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn it back on andimmediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see the Safe Modeoption. Select SAFE MODE and let the computer boot up. When it getsto the User Login screen it will show the Administrator userid and the useridfor which you forgot the password. Sign in as the Administrator (hopefullyyou didn't put a password on it and forgot it too). Once the desktopappears it will look different, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, but this is normal for safe mode.

Click Start/Control Panel/User Accounts
When the User Accounts screen opens, click on the userid for which you forgotthe password. Select the option to REMOVE PASSWORD.

Reboot your machine.

Locked password

Locked Password where? Bios Password? Hard Drive Password? Windows User Account (userid) Password? And which operating system?

If it's the Bios Password, then you will need to remove the CMOS Battery and let the computer sit for a couple of hours. Then put the battery back in and try rebooting. You'll have to go back into the BIOS or Setup to put the correct date and time in but the password should be gone from memory.

If it's the Hard Drive Password, you're kinda out of luck. Hard drives are locked 99% of the time when the computer is stolen. The original owner either locked it while he had possession of it or he could have locked it remotely when it was stolen to keep thieves from getting to sensitive data. The only way around it is to have the original put the password in, or Purchase a new hard drive to put in the computer, reload the operating system, reload the drivers and reload application programs.

If it's the Windows Password for User Account turn off the computer, then turn it on and immediately start hitting the F8 key until you see the SAFE MODE Option. Take the Safe Mode option to boot the computer. When it comes to the login screen it will show you the Administrator account and the Account for which you forgot or don't know the password. Log into the Administrator account (hopefully you didn't password protect it and forgot it). When windows desktop comes up click Start/Control Panel/User Accounts. When the User Accounts window opens up click on the User Account for which you forgot the password then select Remove Password. Reboot the machine

When booting ask for pASSWORD

Is this a Bios Password, Hard Drive Password or Windows User Account Password? Did you set the password and forgot it? If it's a Bios Password you'll need to remove the CMOS Battery attached to the motherboard and let it sit a couple of hours then replace the battery and see if it forgot it had a bios password. Most times you'll have to disassemble your laptop to get to the CMOS battery. If it's the Hard Drive Password, them 99% of the time this is indicative of a stolen laptop and the only remedy is to try to give the laptop to it's rightful owner or replace the hard drive. Hard Drive passwords are enabled and can be done by the rightful owner remotely in some cases to keep thieves from getting to sensitive data. Can you bypass the acer empowering password

The default password for that is 000000If that doesn't work, try a blank password, and there may be a hint to help you out.
If that doesn't work, you have to get something like the ultimate boot disk, and manually navigate and open a file on the hidden partition of the hard drive. The location of the file you want is:<root>\TOOLS\AIMDRS.DATIf you can open that file, you should be able to read the password.

A certified HP tech. can reset it for you without anny problem at about 60$US... the DIY way (If you know what you'r doing... skilled) you need to reach the CMOS battery pack (inside the notebook this meens disassembling the notebook), than unplug it, than short the battery connector pins (on the system board NOT the connector on the battery leeds) for 20 seconds, than replace the battery if you dont know what I'm talking about ask help from a certified HP technician near you... if you find the battery dirrectly soldered to the system board than you can short the battery for 20 seconds but keep in mind that you've just taken out a fiew years of it's life... ther's some software out on the net that can successfuly reset the password but unfortunatly they work 50% of the time... it's up to you (a painfull 100% or an eazy 50%)...

It doesn't matter what size the drive is (in GB, not physical size) and anything over 20 gigs or so is acceptable for just checking email and using office. You will need an IDE drive and just in case you were asking for physical dimensions they are standard for PCs... 3.5 x 5.79 x 1.03 inch
