SOURCE: After a few heating cycles the burner does not ignite

The problem you are describing is usually associated with a bad gas valve coil. The dryer runs normally until it gets hot, then starts making a strange clicking noise. After it cools down, the dryer runs normally again. The gas valve coils (there are two of them) usually run about $20 a piece. I recommend replacing both of them at the same time just to be sure. I hope this helps.

SOURCE: igniter on my gas dryer glows but does not ignite

If the ignitor is infact getting hot enough the next step is for the coils to open the valve to release the gas. Most of the time the ignitor is not drawing the proper amperage to open the coils. One or more of the following parts would be bad.
ignitor # 5303937186 $50.00 shipped to you.
coil # 5303931775 $40.00 shipped to you

My. Drier. When. I turn it on the glow bar lights for a few seconds then goes out. What's wrong

The most common cause of a no heat problem on a GAS dryer is worn or blown igniter. These appliances are equipped with a burner assembly with electronic igniters. The following link explains a little theory about how these igniters work:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r401858-replacing_oven_igniter_gas_range

I know the link is for a gas range, but the burner assembly functions are nearly identical, as well as, the type igniters used.

If you are having ignition problems it is probably a simple matter of a weak or bad igniter. The burner assembly will ignite automatically as long as the gas valve, igniter coils and igniter are all functioning properly. It can take up to 90 seconds for the burner to ignite. As the igniter ages, you may experience longer ignition times.
NOTE: Just because the igniter glows, does NOT mean it is good. An igniter may still glow, but could be too weak to properly operate the gas safety valve.

Replacement parts can be purchased at any of the following websites:
searspartsdirect.com pcappliancerepair.com appliancepartspros.com repairclinic.com All these sites have competitive pricing, so shop and compare. The first three sites listed also have helpful exploded view parts illustrations to assist you with locating and properly identifying any parts you may need.

If you have any questions, please post back with your complete MODEL NUMBER and let me know. I hope this information is helpful to you.

A gas dryer uses a electric igniter that glows orange to light the gas burner. If the igniter does not glow orange when the dryer is started..replace it.

Gas pilot light

Most modern appliances that use gas as an ignition source do not have a pilot light. The gas and ignition is controlled by a burner assembly with a gas safety valve. In theory, the way the burner ignites is:

1. You push the start button, the drum begins to turn and the igniter on the burner assembly begins to glow.

2. The igniter must reach a predetermined current potential in order for the gas safety valve to open. Once this current potential is reached, the gas safety valve opens.

3. Gas begins to flow into the burner manifold, and you have ignition.

NOTE: It can take 30-90 seconds for the burner to ignite. As an igniter ages, it may take longer.

The reason burner assemblies are designed this way (especially in dryers) is to prevent free flowing gas from filling up the appliance cabinet without ignition. If such a condition existed, the could be a potential explosion hazard.

If you are experiencing problems with ignition, the first thing to check is your igniter. The do wear out with age and are fairly simple to replace.

NOTE: A glowing igniter does not necessarily mean it is good. If it is weak from age, it may never reach the required current level to open the gas safety valve.

If you have questions, or require additional assistance, please post back with your complete model number (located on a nameplate around the door opening on most dryers) so I may be able to provide you with better service. I hope this helps you.

Kenmore gas dryer mod.110-73942. burner comes on as normal. After 5-10 minutes running Cycles off, igniter ( new) glows but no burner ign. Also replaced the sensor adjacent the igniter.

The gas valve coil is bad. When the ignitor is glowing the gas valve should open and allow gas in to be ignited. Change the gas valve.

Kenmore 80 series Gas Dryer

HI. you are correct. this dryer, although gas, is using a Glow igniter system. most older models used the snap igniter that clicks over and over to spark the burner but, this dryer is only 2 years old so, it should be outfitted with a glow igniter system. This igniter is powered by electricity.

It works in conjunction with a Flame sensor.

Your dryer does not have a pilot. The dryer has an igniter on the burner assembly. When you push the start button, the igniter begins to glow. Once it reaches a certain current potential, the gas valve is opened, gas flows and you have ignition. This is a a built in safety feature of the burner assembly that prevents free flow of gas without ignition. Without it, you could have a build up of gas inside the dryer cabinet followed by the loud "phoooom!' of an explosion when it finally DOES ignite. More commonly the igniter either fails to where it does not glow, or becomes weak and will not produce the required current to open the gas valve. The following link explains a little theory about glow bar type igniters and what their current potential should be:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r401858-replacing_oven_igniter_gas_range

I know the link is for a gas range, but the igniters in some of these appliances are identical and the theory is the same.

Another cause of an ignition failure are bad gas valve coils. There are two of them on your burner assembly. It is recommended that if one fails, you replace BOTH of them at the same time. If you go to searspartsdirect.com and type in the model number you provided, there's an excellent exploded view diagram of your burner assembly and parts. The igniter is listed as item number 4 (part #279311) and the safety valve coils are items number 13 (part #694540) and item 14 (694539).

If you can view inside your dryer under the drum, you should see an orange glow as the igniter comes on. If you do not see the glow, or if the igniter glows and there's no ignition after 90 seconds, I would recommend replacing the igniter. If the dryer ignites, then shuts off after a short period of time and will not reignite, you may have a bad coil (you may hear a rattling sound too).

I hope you find this information helpful. Let me know if you require additional assistance.

Kenmore Oven not working

Remove the bottom panel from inside the stove. Turn on the stove and see if the igniter glows bright red. If not glowing, replace the igniter. In some cases, even if the igniter is glowing, the resistance may not be low enough to turn on the gas valve. In either case the igniter has probably gone bad. ($50.00 to $90.00 for igniter)
