Question about NEC PowerMate 2000 PM2002 PC Desktop

1 Answer

Recovery menu Hello, I have an old NEC Powermate with Intel CEleron processor. I do have a recovery floppy disk. I unzipped the content of the Recovery Backup Partition on the hard drive. I have read that I can make a boot floppy disk with a file AUTOEXEC.BAT: C: C \ Call NETRUN.BAT I did this but when I start the pc I get: You can not boot from this disc, etc... I can well see a NETRUN.BAT on the C: What else can I try? Thank you anyway for trying helping me. Greetings, Marian Lazar

    Thank you sinkanew,

I learned from you how to make a bootable floppy. Then I copied my autoexec.bat file to it.

    Hier is the result:

searching for boot recrd from floppy ... ok

    starting

    A:\>C:

    Invalid drive specification

    A:\>CD\

    A:\>CALL NETRUN.BAT

    Bad command or file name

    Then I tryed A:\>C:

    Invalid drive specification

    A:\>exit, works either not.

If I run the same autoexec.bat file from the DOS window in Windows ik runs well! But that's not the meaning...

My operating system is Windows XP Home edition.

I do something wrong but I do not understand what?

    Thank you for your help

    Greetings, Marian Lazar (Holland)

You need to make your floppy bootable by formatting with the "copy system files" option set. Then copy your autoexec.bat file to it, or you could simply type NETRUN and press ENTER from the c:> prompt once you've booted. (What's the operating system?)

Down laod xp recovery disk

If you're running Windows XP and Windows crashes or becomes unusable, you may have to run a Windows XP recovery setup disk to make your computer usable again. When purchased, many computers don't come with a Windows XP recovery setup disk, but you can download one for free from Microsoft. The Windows XP recovery setup disk holds the computer software and files that you need to assist you in rebuilding your operating system.

Place a formatted floppy disk in your floppy disk drive. You will need six formatted floppy disks. Visit Microsoft's Download Center and download the version of the setup disk for your version of Windows (see links in Resources). http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=E8FE6868-6E4F-471C-B455-BD5AFEE126D8 Home Edition http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=8030 Professional Edition set up disks for floppy http://www.download3000.com/download_17676.html XP Recovery CD Maker Windows XP Home Edition and Windows XP Professional Edition have their own recovery setup disks and you must use the correct disk for your version of Windows. Click "Download" and then "Save." Find your floppy drive or optical media drive on the menu and click "OK." If Windows isn't functioning at all, you will have to perform these actions from a working PC. Remove the last floppy disk when the Windows XP recovery disk download is complete and place it in the computer on which you need to use it. Shut down your computer and then turn it back on. If your computer prompts you to boot from the disk, press Enter. If it doesn't, you'll have to go into your BIOS to set the computer to boot first from your disk drive. When your computer boots from disk it will automatically start running the Windows XP recovery setup disk from which you can then set up Windows XP. Hope this helps.

MSI PM8M3 V motherboard with intel celeron D processor

If i am right, it's nothing serious, perhaps your Bios battery has been removed or insufficient voltage. You can replace the battery. Regarding "floppy disk fail", enter the Bios settings and disable the "floppy boot seek", this will fix your problem. Still problem? do let me know. Good luck Thanks for using FixYa.

AVG 7 detecdted Virus Hurri on partition table. How do I remove ?

You will need to fix the master boot record with the Windows XP Recovery Console. To do this, you will need a Windows XP install CD.

Here are the steps to use the recovery console:

To run the Recovery Console from the Windows XP startup disks or the Windows XP CD-ROM, follow these steps:
  1. Insert the Windows XP startup disk into the floppy disk drive, or insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer.

Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted.
  2. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
  3. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console.
  4. When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
  5. At the command prompt, type the appropriate commands to diagnose and repair your Windows XP installation.

In this instance, the correct commands are:

c:\fixmbr
c:\fixboot
The type exit after finishing then remove the Original OS CD.
The machine will reboot properly.

This will fix your boot sector

And All should be well

Can't reboot Compaq/Presario desktop, (power supply is working)

If the system recovery disk doesn't work it usually mans that the hard drive is bad. I would change the hard drive and use the system recovery disk on it after replacement.

System recovery Floppy

you can purchase locally a usb floppy drive and download some small utilities in the internet that can be fit in the floppy disk, but i suggest that better use memory stick because it is cheaper and you can have more space than floppy disk.
