First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot andgo into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If itdoesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

Restart laptop, press F8 to enter the Windows Advanced Options Menu. There are many options, try going to the computer via:

1. Last Known Good Configuration (advanced) - enter. If it fails to enter windows, restart - F8 - select
2. Directory Services Restore Mode - enter. If it fails to enter windows, restart - F8 - select
3. Debugging mode - enter.

Stuck on safe mode

Press F8 at boot up and select Normal boot up. Or if that fails to work then select Last Good Boot Up. that will restore the computer to a previous date when it was booting perfectly. That should help you.

When I turn the computer on, I get the following message: PXE-E61 media test failure, check cable PXE-M0F exiting intel boot agent Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected...

This happens when the BIOS can't find the hard disk. If you're lucky it's just the hard disk that has failed, if you're not it's the motherboard itself the one that failed.
To find out which replace the hard disk with a good one then try to boot in th BIOS - if you can it's the hard disk, if you can't it's the motherboard.

Computer fails to boot. searching for either hard

These pins are referred to as "jumpers". Each manufacturer can have their own jumper settings. Each device should have letters indicating which pins correspond to master, slave, or cable select. The best method to insure operation is to use the cable select (CS) jumper setting. Using this setting, the hardware will be automatically configured.

Error message says PXE-E61:media test failure check cable. PXE-M0F:exiting broad com PXErom. Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press any key.

PXE errors occur when the system attempts to boot to the network adapter and it fails to find a bootable network connection. In most systems, this is due to the hard drive not being detected in the system. So, reseat the HDD and ensure it is seen in the BIOS. If it is not seen in the bios then it has most likely failed and needs replacement.

After I select the user to logon it goes to logging off-why?

Try to boot in safe mode first. Im not sure what laptop brand you are using but I want you to boot to safe mode and try it there to login. Now if it fails try to do F8 then select last known good configuration. If this fails do startup repair.

You might try a Hirens Boot CD, un-zip the files, create a bootable cd from the .ISO file and boot your troubled system, select virus scan on boot.
