This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.
First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.
See the following Whirlpool Service manuals for top load, direct drive washers.
Assuming that it WILL spin, but not drain, the problem does point to either a pump or hose problem.
If you can hear the motor turning during the spin cycle, the pump should be working.
See the following for how to remove the cabinet and gain access to / check the pump.
If it will neither drain NOR spin, the problem points to the Lid Switch?
