Question about Canon PIXMA iP90 Mobile Printer
Just put new color & B&W cartridges in & when I print black, type is broken every other line, or every line with blank in center of line, so type is unreadable. Oddly, the color is fine, and an effective workaround is to print pages selecting dark gray or dark olive. Black prints fine if it's just a header of a color page (missed blocking them when I was printing in color & noticed they were in black & clear).
Put a second black ink cartridge in thinking it might be the cartridge, but same problem, type has white/blank lines. What is the problem & how do I fix?

Have you performed a nozzle test? If one or more of the colors is missing when you do the nozzle test, the printhead itself is likely in need of replacement.
Before considering replacment, perform a clean on the printer. Due to variations between mac and pc, please see your documentation / support files on how to perform the clean on your printer.
After performing the clean, again perform the nozzle check to see if the problem is resolved.
If still not resolved, remove and re-install any cartridges you recently replaced to make certain they are installed correctly.

Remove the printer from control panel, under installed printers, then unplug the usb cable and reinstall the printer drivers using printer cd, or download from canon support website.

The problem is likely to come from your printer settings in your printer properties dialog box. Right-click the printer icon and select Properties. You will see within the dialog where to set the printer to print on black only and then appropriate. restart your pc and then try sending to printer again. Good luck
