Thanks for your advice. I have an AWO 3551 Whirlpool front-loading washing machine. It works but I think it's highly likely that the filter needs a clean and is long overdue. I've opened the front plate and unscrewed the plastic cover but the filter doesn't come out at the same time. It seems pretty stuck and there is nothing to get a purchase on (unless I get pliers and turn counter clockwise - but slightly concerned that might break it...?) Any suggestions of how to make it 'come out to play'?!

SOURCE: Have FP showing in time

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
'F'- filter, 'P'- pump?

I would gently suggest as a first step that you clean the drain motor/pump lint tray/filter. So many 'faults' are caused by blocked filters and many machines will not even go to rinse or spin or release the door lock if there is any water still left inside.
Following are my complete and generic guidance notes for checking both the drain motor filter and the drain motor ;-0)
REMOVE POWER AND ENSURE YOU HAVE A WATER RECEPTACLE/RAGS TO SOAK UP THE WATER WHICH IS BOUND TO POUR OUT (alternatively use a wet vac as sensibly suggested by VinnyB1234!)
If you are unsure where the filter is, it is often behind the front lower (kick) panel (or in some machines at the rear in an awkward position!). These panels are either held on by (plasic) screws or will just pull off. Most filters are held in by a round cover/knob. Sometimes the filter will not come out with the cover and you will have to persuade it to come out to play.

It's surprising what people have found in theirs! It is always worthwhile checking it on a regular basis.
Now- whilst the filter is removed it is normally possible to see the drain motor and ensure it is not jammed by a foreign object such as a needle or a toothpick. It should be able to be turned by hand/finger- the power IS OFF!
At this point it is also possible to test if the motor works. No clothes or water in the machine, select a spin cycle and put the power back on. You should be able to see the motor turning at some point, possibly straight away. Using something suitable like a glove see if it is easy to briefly slow the motor down. If it is easy then the motor is malfunctioning.

If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck!

I just tried looking your model up but the # you gave is incomplete. If your washer is a top loader and has a belt, my experience has been the mode shift actuator causes lid lock light to blink as you have described. That is a fairly inexpensive and simple part to replace.

My daughter had the same problem for about two years. A repair man came out and told her to call the company and tell them she wanted it fixed under a recall. She said the computer board had to be replaced and it was recalled due to a flaw in the machine. The service man came back again after she called, and he fixed it for free.

There are many safety features on Your machine. They all apply to the Start/stop button. Your problem may pertain to the computer board directly. You will need the owners manual on this for safety/Maintainance. from what i have read on the internet it sounds like one of these safety's is engaged. You can find the manual at www.Sears parts direct.com

I changed the pump on my Whirlpool washing machine model AWO 3551 but it's still not pumping water. None of the hoses are bocked. What am I missing?

Are you sure the pump is getting a supply to it?
Also, the pump iself could be faulty.
Only way to be sure, is test the pump on a drain cycle, and see if you can hear it going, or test with a meter for voltage. BE CAREFUL
