Question about Skil 2887 - 06 Factory - Reconditioned 18V 2 - Speed Cordless 3/8" Drill/Driver with Stud Finder

The chuck no longer spins on my drill

I've got a Skill 18V cordless drill, and this weekend, while using a hole saw bit, the drill got stuck, and torqed all the way around (my wrist is no more flexible), but now the drill no longer functions. Pulling the trigger, I can tell the drill still has power, and that the motor is spinning, but nothing is moving. It is not the chuck screw. I'm guessing that I stripped a gear on the inside.

Question is: Can I just replace the gear? Where would I get it?

Problem Solved. My torque settings on the chuck got swung all the way around to 1, which caused it to act broked, when actually it wasn't. Thanks for the thoughts ccrozier

Hi your best chance is to try ebay for one with the motor gone.
Other than that best you can do is buy another drill the same so you will have a spare battery.
You could try Skill for a gear but it probably will be the price of a new drill.

I have a Milwaukee M18 cordless drill with a bit broken off inside and the chuck won't open.

Put your drill into reverse, and hold the chuck. With luck, that will loosen the chuck and the broken bit will fall out.

Ryobi 18v drill stuck chuck

easy to fix
with the drill not running

grab the bottom part of the spinning part of the drill nearest the drill's motor.
then
grab the spinning shaft bit nearest the drill bit
pull them apart slightly

when the two parts are pushed together thay lock the chuck

I own a ryobi hammer drill that does the same thing

Need to remove chuck on new BOSCH DDS181-02 18v cordless drill. No screw evident @ bottom of chuck-only small 1/16" hole. How do I remove chuck?

There is supposed to be a Phillips head LH thread screw in the chuck. I have seen the screw head worn down so you can no longer get a screwdriver to work.
We usually cut the chuck off with a metal chop saw just at the screw - thread what remains of the chuck off, which usually leaves 1/4" of the screw sticking out of the spindle - remove with vise grips.
Its not an easy prospect when that happens.

How to change bits

The drill uses a cordless chuck (part bits go into) you will need to hold the outside ring of the chuck and spin it to loosen the jaws on the bit. Then spin the chuck the opposite way to tighten

I have a skill 18v drill and the chuck jaws that hold the bit has one stuck down and two even, i have taken off the chuck but was wondering how to disassemble the chuck itself or if there is another way to...

Lube the chuck with some penetrating oil and bring the two loose jaws near the surface. Take a brass or soft hammer and pound the face. The stuck jaw should come down. They have a spring to push them down, but sometimes grits or other contamination causes them to stick.

Chuck will not release bit

Hi,

the Chuck should be 2 Part.

Use 2 pair of stillsons Or pipe wrenches, Tight On the 2 Chuck Parts, Crack in opposite Directions.

Alternative, Use Wrench On Chuck Jaw, Short sharp Blow With Hammer.
