I had the same problem with my Craftsman opener and found that I had pierced the cable leading to one of the eyes and was shorting out on both negative and positive wires. Something to look for. I went out and put up a brand new genie screw drive and that is when I found out about the pierced wire. also make sure the eyes are perfectly in line. Hope this helps. Cheers.

My garage door opener is a 3/4 craftsman and one light is yellow and the other is green. I put my hand in front of the green light and the green light went off. the other side is a yellow light and it

Hi Vickie,

The safety beam portion of the garage door opener is set up to stop the door from closing if something (car, person, etc,.) is in the doorway.

When the door is open - if you press the hard wired push button (not the wireless remote) the door will either close until shut completely, or begin to close and reverse direction as soon as you let go of the button. When this happens, it *usually* means that a sensor is blocked - and reversing the door motor. If you try yhtis with the remote the door may not move at all or just bump down and stop.

You should re-align the sensors as described in the link below. Good luck!

DOOR CLOSES MOST OF THE WAY AND THEN OPENS. LIGHT THEN BLINKS TEN TIMES. I NOTICED THAT ONE SAFETY SENSOR IS GREEN AND ONE IS YELLOW. PLEASE ADVISE.

Hi. The sensor with the yellow light is telling you that it is miss-aligned, Usually it only takes getting bumped to knock them out of alignment.
I would slowly turn or adjust the positioning of the sensor.
The one with the yellow light should turn green when it is all the way in line so that the beam is completing it's path.

It's out of adjustment, so the sensor is looking at it like there is an object blocking the door from closing.
It's called the obstruction sensor.
It's there as a safety feature, so that the door doesn't come down and smash anything in the opening.

I hope this helps you out.

My safety override prevents the door from closing and there is nothing blocking the doorway. Can I override the safety mechanism?

Hello,
I am not a expert on doors but have ran into a simular problem with my door. Hope this will help.
-Mine would not go down during the day due to sunlight hitting the trip sensors, Take the cardboard tube from a roll of toliet paper and put it over the sensor that is getting sunlight (just a cheap shade).
-Also if you can hold down the door switch inside the garage and the door goes down it is a sensor problem

As I stated before I am not a expert on doors, so please don't give me a bad review I am just sharing what worked for me.

Thanks,

My older Craftsman garage door opener comes down about 6" & then goes back up. I just replaced all the rollers o& the opener worked fine. Then I tightened the chain on the opener & it worked ok...

If the main light flashes 10 times when the door goes back up it is a door sensor problem. You chain should sag just a little. If you tighten it too much it will click as it goes over the sprocket. You can increase the down force which is an adjustment near where all those white wires go. A 1/4 turn should be enough. Release the door from the opener and operate it by hand. It should move freely and when you have the door approximately waist high it should stay put. Neither raising nor closing.

Door goes part way down; goes up before getting a 1/4 way down

If the main light flashes 10 times when the door reverses it is a sensor problem. If the door starts down and then reverses but the main light does not flash it is most likely the RPM sensor which is a small printed circuit board just in front of the motor.

Have a sears unit it will only go from open to close about one foot then returns to full open even with the chain off

the door does not have enough pressure to close ,possible dirty roller wheels ,bad bearings in pulley wheel ,you would have four iof them unless you have torsion spings , spray with wd-40 thoroughly and then adjust the downward pressure sensitivity to about 1/2 usualy the settings from 1-12 so you would set it to 6 ,if the door still dosent stay down adjust in single increments till it does stay shut , if that dont work make shure if you have door safety infrared sensors that their is nothing toward the bottom of the door that can possibly stick fron the door and trip the door to return to the upward position , please check theese things first and hopefully one of theese idea,s will solve your problem , if you think i was of help please leave me a nice feedback ,thank you and it was apleasure being able to help you ,sincerely glenn mayer

Garage Door Opener Light does not come on when it is supposed to

Great call Marty! I had noticed the amber LED above the learn button was blinking with one pulse, which the troubleshooting guide noted as being a problem with the sensors. Finding that one tiny paragraph in the manual and following the instructions of holding the wall-control light button in for 10 seconds reprogrammed it and the functionality is returned. Thanks!

Genie 2020L - Garage door does not close using remote/pad

You have loose wire(s). After speaking with Genie Customer Service, they had me disconect a few of the wires and try operating the unit, to no avail. I noticed when reconnecting the wires that several other wires on the same row of connections were loose. I tightened all wire connections and VOILA, it works.
1.Open plastic cover in front of the Unit.
2. Look on upper right corner for a row of screws. Model 2020L has a verticle row of (6) connection screws numbered from top to bottom, 1-6. These screws connet to a green circuit board. Looks kind of like a video card from a computer.
3. Tighten all these screws top to bottom assuring good connection of all wires.
My contention is this. As the motor runs, it causes a vibration that tends to loosen those screws causing a faulty connection to the circuit board. Hope this works for you.

Opener not working properly

Garage doors have safety sensors so the door does not hit the car or anything else that gets in the path of the door. Check to see if anything is blocking sensor mounted on the track near floor. Also sensor my have been bumped and not in alignment. Hope this helps
