Brother DCP-115C Printer: "No Ink" message continues even after old ink cartridge (still some ink!) is replaced with a new one.

Unfortunately I've been through the logical (non-technical) options, even to the point of completely un-installing and then re-installing, in order to go through the set up mode again. The problem persists.

Brother DCP-115C: The NO INK message will not clear after the Black ink cartridge is replaced. Repeated attempts at re-installing the ink cartridge fail to work. Even completely un-installing the printer and then re-installing, in order to go through the set up mode again. All the logical (non-technical) options have been tried, but the problem persists.

  • groucho12 Oct 27, 2008

Anything cleanable cleaned (again) error message continues to say NO CARTRIDGE.

  • groucho12 Oct 27, 2008

All processes ink cartridge, etc. correctly followed. Answered YES when asked if new cartridge installed. Even tried a second new cartridge to see if the replacement one was the problem. Still get the message NO CARTRIDGE.

  • groucho12 Oct 27, 2008

Replaced all three colour cartridges and now the black has been accepted and I have a print out to prove it. Hoorah! Thanks for your assistance. We got there in the end.

Clean the cartridge sensor (the metal plaque inside the ink carriage), using cotton and isopropyl alcohol.

If you are using non-original or refilled cartridges, then the cartridge had not been reset properly, try using original ones, and it should work.

If you change the cartridge when the old ink is still not empty, the machine cannot recognize that the cartridge has been replaced. Replace the new ink with the old ink cartridge first and use it until the LCD displays "Ink Empty". Replacing the cartridge after the LCD displays "Ink Empty" prevents this problem from occurring.

Is this a brother certified cartridge..if not there are some interference issues when installing, which could make this a problem..if you have the old one, inspect them side by side, and look for any small protrusions on the edges or bottoms..

well..i would suggest that what you are experiencing is an interference issue, inside the cartridge housing..inspect the bottom of the cartridges, and inside the carrier for any loose materials..

Are you using original cartridges os 3rd party/refilled ones? This could also cause the error. Always use original inks..

Your machine is equipped with an ink dot counter. The ink dot counter automatically monitors the level of ink in each of the four cartridges. When the machine detects an ink cartridge is running out of ink, the machine will notify you with a message on the LCD. The LCD will inform you which ink cartridge is low or needs replacing. Be sure to follow the LCD prompts to replace the ink cartridges in the correct order. Even though the machine informs you that an ink cartridge is empty, there will be a small amount of ink remaining in the ink cartridge. It is necessary to keep some ink in the ink cartridge to prevent air from drying out and damaging the print head assembly. 1 Lift the scanner cover from the right-hand side of the machine until it locks securely into the open position. If one or more ink cartridges are empty, for example Black, the LCD shows Ink Empty Black and Replace Ink. 2 Pull the ink cartridge hook toward you and remove the ink cartridge for the colour shown on the LCD. 3 Open the new ink cartridge bag for the colour shown on the LCD, and then take out the ink cartridge. 4 Remove the protective yellow caps. DO NOT TOUCH THE AREA UNDER THE YELLOW CAP. 5 Each colour has its own correct position. Keep the ink cartridge in an upright position when you insert it into slot. Press down firmly on the ink cartridge until the hook snaps over it. 6 Lift the scanner cover to release the lock. Gently push the scanner cover support down and close the scanner cover. 7 If you replaced an ink cartridge while Near Empty was displayed on the LCD, the LCD may ask you to verify that it was a brand new one. Example: Did You Change Black? ▲ Yes ▼ No. For each new cartridge you installed, press (Yes) to automatically reset the ink dot counter for that colour. If the ink cartridge you installed is not a brand new one, please be sure to select (No). If you wait until Ink Empty message is displayed on the LCD, the machine will automatically reset the ink dot counter. If the Install message is on the display after you have installed ink cartridges, check that the ink cartridges are installed properly.

My problem is that the printer is not recognising that the cartridge in inserted...it tells me "no cartridge" and also "ink empty", i have put 2 brand new cartridges in and it still...

reset the waste ink counter, put black tape on critical ridge of all cartridges and refilled them. All showed full. All was well for 2 sheets, then all 4 cartridges are showing as near empty on LCD also on software monitor program. Whether or not they are near empty, how does the printer know with the light beam blocked? I have made filling holes on each cartridge (sealed with rubber plugs) so that I can refill without removing them. Doing this is not going to change the readout.
My expert TIP: Buy a new printer. Printers today are as just as expensive as a set of printer inks. Printers have heads and they get dirty over time and might need replacement, which is all the more expensive. Try buying ink advantage printers, they DO indeed save money. Or try looking for somebody who knows how to modify your printer to a CIS (Continuous Ink Supply) printer.

I have brother DCP-115C printer i put new ink catriges and try to print the printer give me a message '' near empty mgent ''what to do ?

This message is printed because the ink of mgenta color is missing or cartige is running out of the ink. If u have put new inks then check whether they r inserted properly or not.

Thanks

Hi, my Brother DCP-115C Brother printer keeps telling me my black ink is empty despite putting brand new cartridges in, can you offer any help. Thanks.

Black electrical tape is the answer and it’s because the tape is BLACK. Even if u put black tape on an empty cartage the printer will still try to print.

The tape goes on the side of the cartage that faces the back of the printer (where the sensor must be).
