If you mean onscreen then it usually applies to MS word where you can double click on it to change from OVR (overwrite) to INS (insert) right-clicking on it may also pull up a menu

My keyboard doesn't have a Fn key and I need to access some of the blue keys. Could someone tell me how to do this please.

If you have blue keys, then you most certainly DO have an Fn key. Most people look for it where the f1-f12 keys are, but it is usually in the lower left-hand corner of the keyboard near the Windows START key. If you will tell us the manufacturer and model of your laptop, we could be MUCH more helpful!

My notebook keyboard automatically converts some keys into calculator mode, i want to reset it into letters mode

On your laptop look in the lower left corner for a key labeled with the letters "fn", in blue letters.
Look on the upper row of keys near the right side for a key with "num lk", "num lock" or an icon that appears to show a calculator.
Hold down the fn key while you press the other key, when you release both keys this mode will be turned off and the key will again function normally.

Laptop keeps typing over words that i'm trying to edit

I presume you are using Microsoft Word for editing? At the bottom look and see if you notice the letters OVR. That means your editing function is set to over write. Just hit your Insert or INS key to make it go dim which means the overwrite function is disabled. Then try typing again. With the over write function disabled you should be able to type normally and insert words instead of over writing or erasing previous characters.

The second light from the left in the lower left hand corner of my Vostro 1510 is flashing. It looks like it might mean the battery is charging - ie it has a lightening -like symbol in the middle of the...

A flashing orange battery charging light is a failry universal symbol that means the battery is detected, but NOT charging. Usually, this means the battery has gone bad. In some cases, a slow orange flash means bad, a fast flash means very very low charge (or vice versa)

For your laptop in particular, go here for official illustrated documentation on the battery lights and meanings :

The above url is all one line.
