Question about Sharp Televison & Video

Open Question

I've got a Sharp VC-MH704 Video recorder which has stopped working. The fault is that when a cassette is inserted the "insert" arms seem to be out of sync. When the cassette drops down, two arms take the tape around the head, then the drive roller drops down before the third tape arm moves towards the drive roller. This means that the tape does not get driven by the drive roller and the video will not play. It is obvious that the third tape arm should take the tape beyond the drive roller -but this doesn't happen. Any ideas? - it appears to be a mechanical failing rather than anything elctronic. Thanks.

SOURCE: heads and tape path need cleaning

if you don't know what u are doing u shouldn't mess with video head. U can easily damage the head. If cleaning tape does not work have tech do it. Should be relatively cheap.

Can anyone supply me with the common commercial type number, JEDEC number, for the power supply output transistor in the Sharp VC-H982U video cassette recorder?

Type "Sharpe VC-H982U Service Manual" into Google and you will see a free PDF of it. That should tell you the number!

When inserting vhs tape, the player pulls the tape from inserted vhs

That is exactly what a typical M-Load mechanism is supposed to do. Once the VHS tape cassette is inserted, cassette housing cover will be flipped up and two arms will pull tape out of cassette housing to wrap tape around cylindrical spinning head housing that contains video heads and, if VHS HI-FI, audio heads as well. When stop or eject button is pressed, arms will retract and tape will wind back into cassette housing. What type of problem are you experiencing with unit? It may have nothing to do with M-load engaging tape around head cylinder.

Most likely you will need a scan converter to change your signal from a Video to a VGA. The signals are mismatched.

Inserted a cassette, get the message "cannot record cassette" "protect tab". A little grey piece (probably the protect tab) fell out the camera when I set it down. Not sure where this...

On the mini-DV tapes I have, the protect tab is a slider- it does not come out of the cassette. If you look at the back edge of the tape, where the long label goes, the protect tab is at the right hand end. When it is set to prevent recording it will look like a little square hole, but there should be a tiny edge of the tab showing (mine is green) which you can pull across with a fingernail or sharp object to cover the hole and allow recording.

Sharp Viewcam VL-AH151U keeps saying "eject cassette" why is that? How or where can i send this to get fixed?

Assuming the record tab is in the correct position, download the manual for the VL-AH150U, very close to the 151U.
Page 10 of the manual shows the normal reasons for the "eject cassette" message. If not, I would call Sharp support at
1-800-BE-SHARP (237-4277) for referral to a local repair center.
Let me know if this helps.
