SOURCE: excel formula

Relative cell reference is address of cell , when copied from one cell to another gets changed automatically.

e.g. Put formula in cell c5 as A5+1 when you copy this from c5 to c6 the address of A5 will automatically changed to A6.

Absolute Cell Reference

As above now put formula in cell C5 as $A$5+1 ,now copy this formula from C5 to C6 if you this formula youwill find cell Address of A5 does not changed.

Mixed Cell Reference:

If we put Dollar ($) sign before Alphabetic cell address i.e.$c5 then even if you copy this formula in any cell , coloumn (c)  will remains constant.

Similarly if we put Dollar ($) sign before Numeric cell address i.e.c$5  then you copy this formula in any cell row address of the cell remains same.(5).

Pl elobarate on remaining two points 'Specific order of formulas ' and 'advance formulas,

Plz tell me Sir/Madam. what is Hlookup And give me example

Hi Geetad11

This is Horizontal lookup , used to look up value in a 2 dimensional table .It searches for a value in the top row of a table or an array of values, and then returns a value in the same column from a row you specify in the table or array. Use HLOOKUP when your comparison values are located in a row across the top of a table of data, and you want to look down a specified number of rows. The H in HLOOKUP stands for "Horizontal."

Formulae Syntax

HLOOKUP(lookup_value,table_array,row_index_num,range_lookup)

Lookup_value is the value to be found in the first row of the table. Lookup_value can be a value, a reference, or a text string.

Table_array is a table of information in which data is looked up. Use a reference to a range or a range name.

  • The values in the first row of table_array can be text, numbers, or logical values.

  • If range_lookup is TRUE, the values in the first row of table_array must be placed in ascending order: ...-2, -1, 0, 1, 2,... , A-Z, FALSE, TRUE; otherwise, HLOOKUP may not give the correct value. If range_lookup is FALSE, table_array does not need to be sorted.

  • Uppercase and lowercase text are equivalent.

  • You can put values in ascending order, left to right, by selecting the values and then clicking Sort on the Data menu. Click Options, click Sort left to right, and then click OK. Under Sort by, click the row in the list, and then click Ascending.

Row_index_num is the row number in table_array from which the matching value will be returned. A row_index_num of 1 returns the first row value in table_array, a row_index_num of 2 returns the second row value in table_array, and so on. If row_index_num is less than 1, HLOOKUP returns the #VALUE! error value; if row_index_num is greater than the number of rows on table_array, HLOOKUP returns the #REF! error value.

Range_lookup is a logical value that specifies whether you want HLOOKUP to find an exact match or an approximate match. If TRUE or omitted, an approximate match is returned. In other words, if an exact match is not found, the next largest value that is less than lookup_value is returned. If FALSE, HLOOKUP will find an exact match. If one is not found, the error value #N/A is returned.

Remarks

  • If HLOOKUP can't find lookup_value, and range_lookup is TRUE, it uses the largest value that is less than lookup_value.
  • If lookup_value is smaller than the smallest value in the first row of table_array, HLOOKUP returns the #N/A error value.

Example
The example may be easier to understand if you copy it to a blank worksheet.ramsoft.jpg

Looking for a replacement door gasket for the fresh food side and I do not want to order the wrong gasket

Here is what I do when I don't want to order on line for any reason. I write down things that can be used to reference the product as close as possible to the manufacturers replacement parts catalog.
  1. Manufacturers Name
  2. Model number
  3. Serial number
  4. Date of purchase
  5. Product description
The first three are the most important information to have while the last two are just for information that might have other significance when cross referencing parts database.

With that in hand, I would surf the internet for appliance parts stores even if they are out of state, as long as it's in the same country, e.g. USA. I would look at what they have in their parts catalog and search using my cross reference info. Once I have all I need, I either call my local appliance parts store and hand him the part numbers of what I need.

NOTE: Majority of resellers, distributor and parts mail catalog policy have a No Return or Exchange for Electrical Parts. For more info, I call them first and inform them that the packaging has not been altered if it's ok to return it. If the customer service gives you an RMA (Return Material Authorization number) then follow their return shipping proceedure. Good luck, as always please rate any suggestions posted in your search for solutions to your problem. Thank you.

Finding the correct row num

You would have to combine the use of 2 functions. The Address and Match funbctions.
Lets say the number you want the address of is located in cell F1 and you have 2 columns of numbers. One colum in Column A and the other in column B. I will give you 2 formulas. The 1st one will return just the row number. The 2nd one will return the cell address.

Option 1: Lets say you just want to know the row reference of the number in cell F1. Place this formula in cell D1. =MATCH(F1,A1:A20)
If you have another column ytou want the row number of, place the formula in lets say cell D2 and change the column references from 'A' to 'B'.

Option 2: If you want the cell reference, place this formula in cell D1 and D2 instead of the firt formula.
=ADDRESS(MATCH(F1,A1:A20,0),1,1,TRUE)
And just like the first option, for the 2nd column, put the formula in D2 and change the column reference 'A' to 'B'.

Sony FD Trinitron

The part number that you reference is teh complete D board and is available from tritronicsinc.com for $313.49 with a DUD return of $115.00 This means that you return the bad baord and get a credit of $115 when the board is received back at tritronicsinc.

I can only verify the interchange if you supply the original model number of the set involved.

Thanks,
Dan

VLOOKUP is to Searches for a value in the leftmost column of a table, and then returns a value in the same row from a column you specify in the table. Use VLOOKUP instead of HLOOKUP when your comparison values are located in a column to the left of the data you want to find. The V in VLOOKUP stands for "Vertical." Syntax VLOOKUP(lookup_value,table_array,col_index_num,range_lookup) Lookup_value is the value to be found in the first column of the array. Lookup_value can be a value, a reference, or a text string. If range_lookup is TRUE, the values in the first column of table_array must be placed in ascending order: ..., -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, ..., A-Z, FALSE, TRUE; otherwise VLOOKUP may not give the correct value.
