Question about Brother IntelliFax-2820 Laser Fax

Open Question

IntelliFax 2820 jams constantly

Hello, For the last couple of months, our Brother IntelliFax machine has been jamming on more or less every page it prints out. Normally, when I get a "paper jam" message, I pull out the paper feed tray, and find that a single sheet of paper has gotten stuck just after being sucked out of the stack. I pull this sheet out, put it back in the stack, then close the tray; another page will print, and then the "paper jam" error will re-appear. Does anyone have any troubleshooting suggestions? Or, is it time to just buy a new machine? Thanks

Make sure there is nothing caught where the documents go it. List up the scanner cover and look inside. It may need a separator pad or clean the feed rollers with some alcohol. Lawrence

Clean the rollers, but also check the drum/toner. at the front there is a peice that breaks on occasion that will cause a jam.

Try making prints or copies with the rear door open. If it does not jam your fixing unit (hot area) is functioning properly. With the rear door closed try again making copies or prints. If it jams it's most likely the exit rollers acting up.

1. I've seen the exit sensor break on these units and sometimes the drive gears wear and do not feed properly.
2. If using after market toner or refills this may also coat the exit roller with a film which prevents the exit rollers from feeding parper out by reducing the friction of theses rollers. Clean with fantastic untill cloth does not turn black.

  1. Clean all feed wheels and guides with methylated spirits.
  2. Look for any switch or guide that may be bent or out of place.
  3. Look for any small piece of paper or staple that may have lodged in the paper path somewhere.
  4. Ensure the paper is dry. Not stored in a cupboard in the kitchen or the printer is not setup infront of an air vent.

I have an Intellifax 2820 and there is an error message of paper jam inside... I have cleaned all paper out of machine... please help me

A jam sensor may be stuck by a paper scrap. Try manually pushing a sheet of paper through the machine IN THE DIRECTION IT IS NORMALLY FED. This may force out any stuck scraps. The jam sensors are usually located where the paper feeds and where it exits the machine. Also, make sure ALL ACCESS PANELS YOU OPENED TO CLEAR JAMS ARE CLOSED PROPERLY. Otherwise, the jam code will not clear.

Hi. Open the document control panel and look in with a flashlight and see if the jam switch is stuck. also look for a small piece of paper that might be stuck in there. The jam is in where you put documents in to fax out. Lawrence

Out of the lower paper tray when you go to print? Try this, remove the cassette tray and use a water dampened cloth and clean the gray paper pickup roller off. A lot of times this has paper fiber build up that causes the paper not to feed. The printer has a certain timing pattern for when paper should reach a certain sensor, and if it doesn't, then a jam error will occur.
