Question about HP Photosmart R847 Digital Camera
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Picasa.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

I know some of my cameras have a 'on board memory' and chip. Most likly the desired pictures are there, or the memory card conection (in the camera) is not making a full connection. can you clean the contacts?

I havnt see any support out there for it to make it work with windows 98,
but I was able to come up with a solution, I installed the 330 version of
the driver and then afterwards I simply updated the driver and it installed
a usb driver and found the camera and gave me a removable disk (e) to
look at the pictures afterwards. It does work on windows 98.
Hope this helps.

This is probably THE most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

First I'd try turning the flash off, a manual option on nearly all camera's. Take a couple of photo's without flash, and turn the camera off and on a couple of times then turn the flash back on to auto.
If that doesn't resolve the problem, I suggest going to the HP website, follow links to support and/or downloads and see if there's a firmware upgrade for your camera.
