I have a Samsung LN46B550K1FXZA 46" lcd tv. The tv started turning on & off by itself. I ended up calling a service tech recommended by Samsung, & they came to my house. After the diagnostic, the tech told me that the mainboard had failed. He also said that even though it was not under warranty anymore, Samsung would sometimes replace the part if I asked them. After a few phone calls, I came up empty, so I told that to the tech, & he quoted me a price of $160 for the board & $195 for the labor. I figured I can replace the board myself, because I have swapped pc motherboards before. I ordered the new mainboard, & verified that it was the correct board. When the new board came in, I replaced it without any problems. I did notice that the old board had burn damage. Now when I plug in the tv, all I get is a solid red indicator light. No noise, or attempts to turn on. I looked at all the capacitors on the power board, & they all look fine. I'm not sure what to do next.

when it blanks out, tuen the lights out in the room, and shine a flash light at the screen, see if you can see the picture, if you can, it is the inverter moard blamking out, thats the board that lights the back lights, if you cant, hit the input button on the remote, if the TV comes back with a picture, it is a problem with the main board, in paticular the componant input on the main board

With any luck you will have the same problem asa the rest of us : blown power board capaciters , remove the rear cover {20 screws} look in the middle of the back of the set with the cover {5 screws} removed from the power supply . Now look to the upper right cornerof the board in the middle of the tv there may be 1 or several capaciters leaking from the X shape on the top , this be be your problem match up replacements but source units that have a higher max voltage than 10volts 7 get them soldered into the board . I repaired mine that failed at 16 months for $4 in parts & it took longer to remove the screws than it did to affect the repair. If you are not conifident about soldering on your $2000 tv then take the board to someone for the job to be done , I would not advise this as a first soldering job , good luck I can't belive how common this is Samsung needs to step up ......
