I have had my HP Pavillion notebook for a little over a year now. I normally use it for educational research, and emails. This weekend I switched it off like I normally do, and when I tried to switch t back on, the power lights would be on, but the screen would be blank. I know that the CD drive is working, as it comes out when I press the button. I think the problem is that the power is not doing to the hard disk, and therefore it is not switching on.I have not added any new programs or changed any of the settings. Do you have any idea if this can be fixed?!

Re: HP Pavillion laptop hard disk not working
Try this (a shot in the dark, but will help eliminate some possibilities): unplug the AC power cord, remove the battery, press power for a few seconds. Replug the power cord and try. If it works, put the battery in and try again.

The message "Hard Disk Failure" is what is called a "Fatal Error" it means that some component in the hard disk has stopped working for some reason. The hard drive in your machine will have to be replaced.

Sounds like u just need to wipe the hard drive out and load a fresh copy of ur operating system. This is just an educated guess but u may have either corrupted the operating system with some other software u added or removed or ur hard drive is writing things to a bad volume or sector on the drive. If u reload the OS and it still is acting funning and freezing up replace the hard drive.
hi this depends on the age if it is older than 3 1/2 year old approx, then you maybe able to put one in, other than that the easiest way to find out is to take the old one out, just look at the back end where it connects to the board, if it has pins in the back its ide if it has just a line of contacts then its sata...hope this helps
