My Dyson cuts off too after a few minutes and starts up again after 5-10 minutes. Is it overheating?

I have the same vaccuum. If I turn hold the "on" button it stays on, however if I don't hold it, it doesn't work. I just bought the vaccuum a few months ago.

I just got the vacuum for Christmas. Its been fine until recently.when I turn it on it runs for 5 mins max before turning off. You have to let it sit for 20 min before it will turn back on. I've cleaned out the hose and it still does it.

Hi this sound like a familiar problem of the motor o/heating due to lack of ventilation ? check the filters ok? remove the cover concealing the roller brush/beater and check for clogging at the underneath and housing clear it out properly easier to remove/lift out roller ? also clear out the clear bucket dust collector and most important the cone that fits into this canister has a cylindrical honeycombed/small holes(looks like hundreds? ) use a small pointed impliment to poke out all!!these holes as these are relative to vacuum within cylinder so if not clear ? motor no vent and result is no/poor vac and o/heat then thermo switch kicks in and shuts down till motor cools hope this helps best wishes from uk

My handheld dyson is not working - initially it was cutting out after only a few mins then seconds now it won't work at all despite showing green light ??

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear your DC31 Animal is only working intermittently. When fully charged, this machine should have a maximum runtime of 10 minutes, or 6 minutes on the maximum power setting.

There are several factors which could cause this, and to determine what's at fault we'd need to take you through some quick diagnostic checks when you have your machine to hand. The machine would also need to be fully charged, so please make sure it's had 3.5 hours to recharge before calling us.

You can reach our freephone customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US). Our experts will be happy to help further.

Best wishes,

Jack

Dyson runs about 5 min then shuts off

REMOVE AND CLEAN FILTERS AND YOU MAY FIND IT WILL WORK OK IF STILL CUTS OUT YOU MAY HAVE A FAULTY THERMAL CUT OUT BLOCK INSIDE THE MOTOR HOUSING
THIS HAPENS WHEN DYSON IS USED WITH CLOGGED FILTERS AND HEAT DAMAGE TO THERMAL BLOCK

AVERAGE REPAIR COST £45 - £ 69 FOR NEW REPLACEMENT

Dyson dc07 keeps cutting out after few minutes

This is a sure sign of a blockage. The motor cuts out because it gets too hot and will start again when it has cooled. Follow the instructions in your user manual for clearing blockages (you can download a copy from the Dyson website if necessary). Make sure the washable filter is clean too (and completely dry before you use it).

Stops after a few mins of use

You are experiencing a thermal cut-off - caused by a blockage. The machine turns itself off before it overheats. You will be able to turn it on again after 30 mins to an hour after it has cooled down. Call the Dyson helpline to do a full troubleshoot to find the blockage.

Dies after a few minutes of vacuuming

The thermal cut-off in your machine is activating - this indicates that you have a blockage or a clog in the machine. The machine will turn itself off so that the motor doesn't overheat - the machine will cool off and you'll be able to turn it on after 30 mins to an hour.

Call the Dyson Helpline for a thorough blockage check - they know what they are doing.

Dyson

the automatic cut out switch on the motor needs replacing when the motor gets hot this switch comes in and stops the motor from overheating when the motor cools down the cleaner will work again and cut out again when the motor gets hot if it is not replaced it will eventually burn the motor out after the switch has been replaced both the filter and cyclone need to be cleaned on a regular basis or the same will happen again
