Try unplugging the VCR for 20 seconds and plugging it back in. It probably will still flash because the clock needs to be reset but you should be able to turn it on and off.

SOURCE: flashing auto display - won't power up

The infra red light in the middle of the mechanical deck, that powers the left and right photo sensors is not ok.It looks like a small lamp( you cant see it when it works-Infra red mind it).The video cassette has a large round opening in the bottom towords the front, and accomodates this lamp.please check it out.

Test the remote control. Use the digital camera , point the r control viewing the camera, and with the camerA ON, you must see the LED I.R ON. see the picture. If NOT you must open the remote and clean the keypads from dirty+ and resolder the cold joint from the LED.
try again. However if the LED is o.k read your owner manual download for free go www. fitness.manualsonline.com

Power goes off when a cassette is inserted. Tried cleaning heads but it won't even run that. When power is turned back on the cassette is immediately ejected.

Good day!!!

Most common problems
  • VCR refuses to FF or REW and shuts off.
  • VCR shuts off entering PLAY or REC or at random during PLAY or REC.
  • VCR eats tapes.
  • VCR doesn't accept tapes or ejects them without cause.
  • Sound is wavery, fluctuating, or muddy.
The cause for all of these is very often a bad idler tire or other dirty, worn, or tired rubber parts

We have a Sylvania TV/VCR combo with a tape inside that won't eject. The result is that the TV shuts off after a couple of seconds. The model number is SSC192

Hello
The belts in the VCR mechanism should be replaced. They are loose and elongatee. Due to this, proper loading of casette won't take place. If so, the video casette will not load properly, willl stop at its middle, will cause a short for the secondary supply; and finally will shut down the TV, and that is happens now with your device now. The inserted casette wont come out. You ahve to open the system, and take the casette out manually by turning the mechanism. If you have enough knoledge you can do it by yoursef. If not get it repaired by any experienced service technician. Never switch ON and OFF this set at this condition. It will make mor faults to get in with power supply system. OK.

Emerson VCR/DVD player - can't get tv (cable tv) to play anymore

I have the same problem with my Emerson VCR. When the ADD button is flashing, just press the menu button to exit the menu. It will add. That's the only thing I know to do. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Unit won't turn on, goes into standby, flashing "auto"

The mechanism is not "shutting" when power is applied. This step is necessary for the unit to operate. Would suggest a complete belt replacement and cleaning....accordianman

OK, found the problem. Another website had the same question on the HR-S9600U, the 9500's replacement:

http://www.cippico.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?p=528&sid=ce3dfc944e4539181195720b836021f4

I checked my vcr, and, sure enough, there was a sort of clicking sound coming from the drum area immediately before the unit would go into "Auto" mode. I removed the complete drum assembly, and tore into the little gearbox, and found the two black, plastic gears with inside pinions that drive the metal screws to change the video head position had each cracked and were slipping on the shafts. This caused the gearbox to bind up.

Using a jeweler's screwdriver, I roughed up the metal shaft and the inside of the gears where they slip onto the shafts, and glued them on using a two-part epoxy. I then re-assembled it all, sorta setting the screws about two turns after their contact with the base of the upper drum. Now, upon power-up, the drum adjusting motor toggles one direction, then the other, and the unit stays on. Playback seems OK.

So, there you go. Yay me....
