Problem with Danby DDW1805W Designer Series Free-Standing Dishwasher

broken casters (wheels)

Two of the four casters (wheels) that make the dishwasher mobil have broken off at the back of the dishwasher. It looks very complex to fix them. How do we do this. The wheels are plastic and they snapped off with out any force. I just moved the dishwasher in a straight motion and the dishwasher was not over loaded. I would prefer to replace all four casters with non-plastic ones to ensure better durability.

    • Ah, but did you repair it yourself? Was it easy? Any tips?

    • my movers broke the wheels. They cost $6.75CAD to replace, but the service will cost $100 for the house call. Can we safely repair it ourselves? We're pretty handy.

DDW1805W - maybe 1802W, which is the portable one. Some of them may have been mislabelled, I was told.

This is definitely something that you can do yourself. Remove the back of the dishwasher and the front kickplate. This will give you access to the wheels. The wheels are held in place with a U shaped clip. Remove the clip and the wheel will come out. replace with the new wheel.

This happened with my Danby DDW1805 and I fixed it myself. I used two step stools at the side of the dishwasher to raise it off of the floor.

FAST and EASY SOLUTION that WORKS!
DO NOT TAKE THE DISHWASHER APART!!!!!
but Turn it UPSIDE DOWN
There should be a Drain Plug (if you got water there)

:
If a wheel breaks
1) use pliers to pull whats left of the plastic wheel off the metal fixed shaft
2) buy replacement wheel from Home Depot
Shepherd 2 in. Twin-Wheel Stem Casters 2 Pack

3) use pliers one again to pull the shaft of out the Home Depot plastic wheel (takes some works)
4) attached the new plastic wheel to the Dishwasher's metal wheel shaft (if the wheel is loose, add some tape to the metal shaft to make it tighter fix)
5) your done, simple as ABC123
6) clean your dishes and smile :-)

In case you haven't fixed this yet, I had the same problem and called Danby. They shipped out a new caster right away for no charge, and it's been fine ever since (2+ years now). So try giving them a call.
