It seems my heil heat pump is going into defrost every time it comes on and blowing a smell back into the vents in my home. The unit will come on heat up and then we smell this odor. It has not been very...
I would have either the circuit board that makes it go into defrost checked, our new Trane had same problem and we had to replace it, or also have them check the sensor that "tells" the unit to go into defrost. I'm suspecting that is happening in ours now, too, as it seems to go into defrost more often again, but not as bad as last year. As for the odor, you have what we, and a lot of others have, is called "dirty sock syndrome", appears to be cause by organisms of some sort growing on the coil in the indoor unit, when it goes into defrost mode the coil gets wet and "turns them on" thus making the organisms smell. Difficult to get rid of. Am going to try a spray called Alathene II and see if that helps.
