Question about Toshiba 32HF73 32" TV

Open Question

White, washed out screen

Never had any problems with this tv until I woke up one morning and turned it on only to see a white, washed out screen with horizontal bars running across from top to bottom. I could barely make out the cable image through the white wash. Same thing for my xbox. Even when I hit the menu button on the toshiba remote and try to adjust the brightness, the menu display is blurry and unreadable through the white wash. The tv is 2 years old and this just happened for the first time today. Any ideas? thanks.

SOURCE: Wide black bar on bottom of screen

I you know how to repair electronics its not a hard fix. The worst case would be the vertical output IC but im thinking th its nothing more then a capacitor in the verticle sweep circuit The average cost to repair this should be around 75 to 125 bucks. Good Luck

SOURCE: I have white horizontal lines about 2 inches at top of my tv

You have some bad grounds on the Vertical IC. In addition to this, in the immediate area of this Vertical IC, are a few bad capacitors. Look for this IC mounted on a large heatsink. It may have seven pins . I cannot remember for sure. I have not worked on this particular TV, so I cannot give you specific locations. But I assure the problem is in this area! If you have some electrical experience you can pull this board out. In this case only the caps need replaced and the IC resoldered. Good Luck and thank you for asking. My tv has several white horizontal lines running across the top of the tv screen the tv brand is an Insignia SDTV and its an older tv what can be done to remove these lines?

This is a retrace blanking problem. Probably, the Vg2 voltage is too high, so the cut-off point from the picture tube is not correct. Try to lower this voltage. On most common flyback trafo's it is the lower adjusting screw (plastic kind of button) which is used to set the Vg2 voltage. Turn it a bit CCW until the white lines disappear.

Screen Problem

You could try cleaning out the dust if you're hearing any crackling, other than that looks like a dead tube. If it is the tube, you would be better off getting a new TV, as tubes are a bit pricey, and those CRT TV's really run up your bill.

I have owned an emerson tv for two years now. All of a sudden the picture has become very blurry and white. It is not the cable connection and a DVD is also white and blurry. Even the input channels are...

you must open the back cover of tv, and then things you should do is set "SCREEN" adjustment on the flyback transformer. you must turn it counterclockwise to reduce and decrease the level of screen brightness. turn screen adjustment gradually until the horizontal blanking lines disappear from the screen. and blurred images will be sharp again

Screen problem

this may be a problem of a loose component, looking through the main board and soldering loose components, IC, transistor, all components, just have patience, this may solve the problem.

White Screen w/ White Lines, Sound On, Turns off after 2 or 3 secs.

Hi If you mean thin white lines, this is is an indication of a problem in the Horizontal Drive ckt. most likely the Damper Diode has opened or shorted, this would cause the visual symptom and then the set would shut down, unfortunately this is a problem best left to a qualified technician to repair, hope this helps.
