Question about Toshiba Satellite L505-S5966 Notebook
I am looking for the longest battery time best
The only battery offered for you model of laptop is a 6 cell. Since there is no 12 cell offered you could go with an external battery that plugs in the the power supply (http://www.google.com/#q=external+battery+for+laptops&hl=en&prmd=imvns&source=univ&tbm=shop&tbo=u&sa=X&ei=IPlDT-TeOOPs2gWt4_WlCA&ved=0CIsBEK0E&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=f412139ffba5ee94&biw=1024&bih=707)
Or a second 6 cell battery, these can normally be found from the manufacture or a place like batteries plus. (http://www.batteriesplus.com/product/37189-COM11075-Battery/548-0/5242-Notebook-Laptop-Batteries/119545-Toshiba/2740-2958-Satellite-U-Series/Satellite-U205--S5057.aspx)

Try a new power adapter before you try the other expensive tests and repairs. The adapters are notorium about failing after being used continuously . If you can check the outgoing voltage at the tip where it fits into the DC jack on the laptop would be good. Match the output to the rated voltage needed to peoperly power the laptop.

Yes, this is replaceable. However, it is not easy to do and requires taking the motherboard out of the laptop and decent soldering skills. If your laptop is under warranty, consult the manufacturer and they may replace it for free. If not, computer repair places can do it for around $100 or so I believe. It is expensive due to the skills and time required.

Tips for a great answer:

Shut your computer down and remove the power cord.
Replace the power cord and press the "Power" button to restart it.
Watch the screen carefully for a message about computer setup.
Most computers use one of the function keys, which are aligned across the top of the keyboard, to access the computer's setup utility, but each manufacturer uses a different key.
For instance, HP computers generally use the F1 or F10 keys, while many Dell computers use the F12 key.
Press the appropriate function key to enter the computer's setup program, then scroll through the list of options until you see "Boot Order."
The exact location of the boot order option varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, but it is often located under the Advanced menu.
Highlight the "USB Devices" option and press the up arrow key until that device is first on the boot order list.
This will force the computer to look at the external DVD drive first when it boots up.
Use the "Esc" key to exit the setup menu. Choose the "Save settings and exit" option and allow the computer to reboot.
It will now boot from the external DVD drive.
Hope this helps
