My jvc i'art tv is only 2 yrs old and the picture is too wide for my screen. I cant find any screen size adjustment buttons on tv or remote. The problem occurs both with cable tv and dvds. What could it be and what can I do about it?

Some receivers have the ability to do this for you, for instance, all ViP and Hopper receivers from DISH can stretch or shrink the screen to fit. Most HDTvs also have this feature, independent of the type of input, using your TV remote find the button that says something along the lines of screen size, picture fit, stretch, aspect, etc. While watching a program that looks unlike the way you want it to, tap the button until the picture changes to the style you most prefer.
It's called a pillar box and it's normal when watching standard definition content on a high definition television. You can adjust this setting by pressing the format or pic size button on your original television remote or by pressing the zoom (bottom right corner) on your Uverse remote.
The picture is controled by the zoom on the tv remote and on the reciever remote. if you're looking at Wide screen containt the your screen will be black on the top and bottom, zooming will make it fit but you will loose some left and right info. Only HD containt formated for home tv's will, like Oasis, or National geographics, ect will give you full screen. Wide screen is for Movie theaters not TV. This realy sucks but to get a large Wide Screen Picture, You have to buy a supper large tv otherwise, the Wide screen image is small and wide and preaty much anoying with a short wide picture with black bands on top and below.. Sorry. We all have to live with this stuff.
Thanks for Using FixYa. If its a 4:3 normal TV or a wide 16:9 TV then you can view high definition picture by using the ARC button on your remote control to change the wide mode(Auto,Letter Box, Pan & Scan). Also check its free user manual for more information.
I too have an Aurex TV ..and have to adjust the screen size regularly .I do this by the hand control.at the bottom of the handset are two rows of buttons..3 on the bottom row and 4 on the next row up..the on furthest on the right on the row with 4 buttons is the button for screen size change.
if you have a wide flatscreen tv it could be that the picture size is in the wrong mode. under the mode button on your tv remote should be two buttons labeled wide and zoom. try pushing these buttons to adjust the tv screen size.
