Question about Mitsubishi WS-65807 65" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Screen looks bowed on top and bottom, then looks fine.

Our tv is just out of warranty and it just started acting up. It appears to bend the top and bottom of the screens towards the center and split the beams. I was fast enough to take a picture but cannot figure out how to post it. This is an intermittent problem currently and has been happening for months. It tend to do it more when just turned on, but will do it in the middle of a movie too. I am guessing it is a board problem because it is intermittent. I took the front cover off today as it was doing it and could not hear any clicking on the boards or anything that would point me in the right direction. If you want to see the pictue of the screen, email me at starvingpilot/at/junodot/com and I will send screen shot of my problem, Thanks in advance Midgetwidget

I just wanted to follow up by saying that when the TV does this, the colors are seperated as well and don't look in alignment. The letering will have ghosts with all the colors represented.

    Here is a picture

This picture is taken and condensed to be loaded on this website. As you can see the lettering is bowed. You are looking at the left side of the screen. Both sides are pinched towards the middle. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Your problem is a common one. It is a convergence problem. There are two IC's that stand up on a heat sink, that will start with STK that has to be replaced. Once these are replaced, there will be some convergence alighnment that has to be done.If you know how to work on solid state electronics, replace the IC's. If you dont , please dont tinker with this set, and call a trained tech to service this for you as a TV set is no place for a handi-person to be experimenting with. good luck

Samsung TSL2793HF - Slight Right Side Pincushion and Horz Line Bottom to Top Until the TV Warms up

Yes, this is rare but I have seen it before--not fixable if it is what I think it is----It is what is called a Dome effect---the shadow mask in the picture tube is actually contracting and or expanding depending on temperature---

Directly behind the phosphor coating (the stripes that you see on the screen) is a metal screen--the holes or perforations in it line up with the stripes on the phosphor screen.

Some masks either have a material or a defect causing the dome effect----Not likely to be anything else---a Pin amp problem will not usually act the way you describe but a shadow mask inside the picture tube will act exactly that way.

Projection sets have two very common problems outlined below.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. The TV can also shut down when the convergence starts to fail.

Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith, RCA and others.

You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from TV Repair Kits using the link at the end of this article.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped or bowed
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture
