Try plugging in a pair of headphones. I tried it without the speakers connected and since it found the headphones and they were OK the system came out of protect mode.

I own a Sharp DVD Micro System XL=DV60 that began to have a "protect" error message when I crank up the volume. Not sure if this applies to your system, but it could be worth a try. Before you proceed, the solution requires you to open up your system (Do not proceed if the unit is still under warranty :)).
IF you are not experienced in opening up electronic equipment, I suggest you find somebody who does. The error on my system was caused by the cooling fan being stuck or not able to spin. The system has a sensor or sense circuitry wherein, when it detects that the "amplifier" IC heats up, it spins up the fan to cool it down. IF the system detects that the fan is not spinning during the cooling phase, it will give out the "protect" message. Note that the fan only spins when you crank up the volume. Less or 0 volume will shut down the fan due to it's "energy star" feature. One possible reason why using headphones does not show the error, since headphones require less energy that the main speakers, thus the amplifier IC does not overheat. To solve the problem, I cleaned out the dust in the system via a 1 inch wide paint brush (haven't tried the compressed bottled air used to clean computers BUT it might do) and nudged the fan. Played the system w/o a cover and observed the fan operation and so far it has solved the issue. I plan to lubricate the fan shaft with very small amount(less than a drop) of machine oil using a syringe. If it does not work, I plan to see if I could purchase a replacement motor for the fan...
Again, I have not seen the internal layout of CD-BA2100 and not sure if there is a cooling fan. But then again, it's better than having the "protect" error popping up. :) hope this helps....

It is possible that the amplifier had encountered a fault with a higher current drain which had triggered it to a protection fault condition. The fault can be with your output drivers. Please check for short on the outputs fitted for both the channels. Use a meter after disconnecting to check for short in the drivers. Disconnect the positive and negative voltages to the output and see if the protect changes. Even a fault in the preamp stages that drives in high current into the output can shut the Amplifier. Sometimes this can be a noise which can be a HUM or HISS before the protect works. Faulty capacitors in these circuits also can cause similar issues and needs close observation. You need to confirm and replace the specific stages or outputs. If not there can be issues in the mother board. Maybe the protect circuit by itself is shutting off due to a faulty bias or there is a leak in any voltage/current sensing circuit. Also disconnect the speakers and test, if the amplifier comes out of the protect mode then check for short on the speakers.Check manual to see if there is a reset or the processor can be a suspect.

Jvc home component mx-kb30 protect mode on

First check that the speaker wires are not shorting, if okay! the problem is in the audio output stage of the receiver, the protect mode comes on if a load is detected.

Check the speaker wires for shorts, if okay! the audio output ic's are loading the circuits causing the protect mode to engauge, only option replacement of the above mentioned parts.

It's not coming out of stand-by mode.display shows only stand by mode. non of its function is working.

It is possible that the amplifier had encountered a fault with a higher current drain which had triggered it to a protection fault condition.ALSO if there is no action the processor should be checked for the parameters.

The fault can be your output drivers- the MOSFETS/IC's fitted for both the channels, Use a meter after disconnecting to check for short in the drivers. Disconnect the positive and negative voltages to the output and see if the protect changes. Even a fault in the preamp stages that drives in high current into the output can shut the Amplifier. Also disconnect the speakers and test, if the protect is off then check for short on the speakers.

How do I go from "Protect: mode back to FM play on

The word protect will engage when you have output problem and will shut the audio off so no sound is available, however if the sound is working normally with protect visible then there is clearly processor issue, something I have never seen before. But it should be checked by a qualified tech.

FW-R7 displays "Locked" when attempting to open CD Trays

You were close, but didn't explain it very well. If you push on the 'DISPLAY' button (left side of machine as you are facing it, about half way down) when the unit is off, it will say something like "DEALER MODE", push it again to return it to regular mode. You may have to press and hold the button to get it to display 'DEALER MODE', then when everything is normal, "DEALER MODE" just goes off and isn't replaced by anything. Hope I explained it well. nyati585@aol.com
