Question about Canon PIXMA iP4600 Color InkJet Photo Printer

Open Question

Canon IP4600 printer doesn't center ink cartridge holder.

My IP4600 is almost like new but suddenly when I lift the lid, the ink cartridge holder no longer centers so it is accessible. The printer hasn't been banged or dropped. I see nothing wrong inside when I peer under the lip. The yellow light is flashing and it may be low on ink. The ink holder isn't jammed, It printed fine until minutes ago. Turning the printer on and off doesn't help. There's nothing in the print queue and it reports Printer Ready (even though yellow is flashing---5 flashes). Suggestions?

After much poking and prodding, the IP4600 is working again. For anyone else who has this problem, this is what I did... The reset button had no affect. Turning the printer off, waiting about 30 seconds and turning it back on didn't work (tried this 3 times). Shutting it down for 30 minutes and powering up again put it in cleaning mode, but the ink tray still didn't come out when the printer was opening and yellow light still flashing.

I did something I was reluctant to do. I gently pulled the tray out and centered it. None of the ink carts needed refilling. Closed the printer, reset, yellow light still flashing.

Opened it again and gently tugged the tray all the way out and all the way to the left, closed the cover and now the light was flashing 3 times instead of 5. Pushed reset and the yellow light went off and I can print. Don't know the technical reason why this worked, but it might be helpful to others.

2. Unplug the electrical cord from the printer and wait 30 seconds.

After installing re-filled ink cartridges, both color and back & white, the printer message that shows ink level still shows low level ink? How do we resolve?

Hello,

Try this procedure:
1. Open printer lid so cartridges move to center of carriage.
2. Lift clamp and remove black or color cartridge from the holder.
3. Place cartridge on table with copper contact strip facing you.
4. Carefully place a strip of clear plastic tape over the four contacts on the upper left corner of the cartridge.
5. Reinstall cartridge in printer and close lid. Wait until cartridge returns to parking position.
6. Open lid and remove cartridge again. Remove tape from left side and place tape over four contacts at upper right corner of cartridge.
7. Reinstall cartridge in printer and close lid. Wait until cartridge returns to parking position again.
8. Open lid again, remove cartridge, remove tape.
9. Reinstall cartridge and close lid.
Printer will now recalibrate. Once the process is complete the ink level meter should be reading full again.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.
