Question about GE 46GW 948 46" Rear Projection Television
HI my GE built in July 2000 Model 46GW948 is havine a problem just started.
When first turned on after being off for a few hours it works alright and then the screens distorts(sometimes) and then goes black and no sound except maybe a little hiss or crackle, then comes back on,sometimes it actually powers off and must be turned back on. It may let you watch 5 minutes or 5 seconds or maybe even ten minutes at a time. It does this off and on for about hour or so and then works fine. Any help would be much appreciated
This is a classis symptom of poor solder connections that when heated connect well. If you can solder, you should be able to fix this yourself. Resolder any connections that appear to be grainy or have rings. Note: The most likely location of these poor connections are at the convergence ICs. These are large black ICs attached to a heatsink and should be marked STKxxx. There are high voltages floating around inside these sets even when unplugged, so be careful.
Keep me posted.
